Seattle up 12-7 with 5:25 left in the 4th

Right after D-Will's fumble.

This is the reason why I truly believe we'll never be a playoff caliber team under Rivera/Shula

Lets just say hypothetically the scores were reversed and the Panthers had the ball on offense, up 12-7 with 5:25 left in the game. How do you think Rivera would have called the game?

Well this is how Pete Carroll called it, and is the reason why they won the game.

  1. Seattle Seahawks at 05:25
  2. 1-10-SEA 8(5:25) 24-M.Lynch right end to SEA 3 for -5 yards (59-L.Kuechly).
  3. 2-15-SEA 3(4:42) 3-R.Wilson pass short left to 40-D.Coleman to SEA 15 for 12 yards (41-C.Munnerlyn).
  4. 3-3-SEA 15(4:35) (Shotgun) 3-R.Wilson pass short middle to 89-D.Baldwin to SEA 28 for 13 yards (30-C.Godfrey).
  5. 3rd and short, backed up near your end zone with the lead and 4:35 left to play, Carroll calls a passing play which caught the Panthers D off guard. Result, 13 yards and a 1st down, but more importantly, kept the drive alive and kept the Panthers offense off the field.
  6. 1-10-SEA 28(3:57) 24-M.Lynch right guard to SEA 30 for 2 yards (58-T.Davis; 59-L.Kuechly).
  7. Timeout #2 by CAR at 03:51.
  8. 2-8-SEA 30(3:51) 3-R.Wilson pass short left to 81-G.Tate to SEA 48 for 18 yards (97-M.Addison).
  9. 2nd and long with 3:50 left and the lead, Carroll calls another passing play, albeit a safe passing play, a passing play nonetheless. Result: 18 yards and another 1st down.
  10. 1-10-SEA 48(3:07) (Shotgun) 24-M.Lynch left guard to CAR 47 for 5 yards (52-J.Beason).
  11. 2-5-CAR 47(2:24) 3-R.Wilson pass short right to 40-D.Coleman to CAR 36 for 11 yards (58-T.Davis).
  12. 2nd and 5 with 2:25 left, Carroll calls yet another passing play. Result: 11 yards and another first down.
  13. 1-10-CAR 36(2:17) 24-M.Lynch right tackle to CAR 36 for no gain (59-L.Kuechly).
  14. Timeout #3 by CAR at 02:14.
  15. 2-10-CAR 36(2:14) (Shotgun) 24-M.Lynch up the middle to CAR 22 for 14 yards (20-D.Moore; 76-G.Hardy).
  16. Marshawn Lynch seals it with a 2nd down run, resulting in a Seahawks victory and the Panthers never seeing the field on offense.

If the scores were reversed, Rivera/Shula would have most likely called a run up the middle on 3rd and short, most likely resulting in a 3 and out, a punt backed up in our own zone, giving Wilson and the Seahawks offense great field position with approximately 4:00 left and an opportunity to lead a game winning drive.

Go back to our 8 minute drives to kill the clock in our leads from last season and you'll see a lot of the same. The difference is how we call our defense. We game planned to make Wilson beat us with his arm and that he semi accomplished. His TD pass could've been an int if he made any sort of mistake but that ball was spot on.
