Growler/Huddle tailgate review

So Mrs. Lackey and I were making out annual pilgrimage to BOA (we're going to try to go to more than 1 game this year) and I say, "Hey, that Panthers website that I'm always on when I'm staring at my phone while giggling like a retarded schoolgirl has a tailgate if you want to have a drink before the game."

My wife, who is really cool and laid back, and usually tolerant of my idiotic escapades said, "Sure, that sounds like fun!"

So we get up Sunday morning and head to the tailgait.

Keep in mind, I've never been to a Huddle tailgate so I'm not trying to compare the two.

The location was good. We walked from our hotel so I can't comment on the parking situation.

The food was good. Typical NC barbecue.

They had a DJ. The music wasn't overly loud, which I liked.

We met the lovely and talented Zod, with whom we chatted for a bit. Zod is a really cool bloke, I enjoyed meeting/talking to him.

We played corn hole for a few, then sought some shade near a trailer. RoaringRiot, huddler who hosted the tailgate, noticed us and another couple we were chatting with, standing near the trailer. He came over, introduced himself and told us to go grab a table in the shade in the VIP section. RR was a gracious host and a super nice dude.

My wife and I had a really good time.

My biggest complaint would be lack of people there. It was a good spot. RoaringRiot put a lot of work into it and I think more people should have attended. I would have enjoyed meeting more Huddlers. I would have preferred a live band to the DJ. (RR said they had live bands for some preseason and will have bands at some of the regular season tailgates.)

To conclude, If I make it to another game sans 10 y/o daughter, I will attend again. So should you.

We definitely will come out to a couple this year. Since I'm in wilmington, we probably will only make one or two this year. I'm hoping you guys will be throwing down on Monday night against the Pats. I'd love to contribute in any way possible. I own a custom apparel/promo items company, so I can make anything with a name on it. Not sure if Zod will allow but I would love to create some tasteful huddle gear. Cheers and Go Cats.

I'll be there when I can bring my son with me. Can't just leave him on the street.

Same here. I usually attended all the tailgates but I have a 14 year old. If it isn't family friendly I wont be there. I would like to get together with other huddlers who have kids and start our own tailgate since we aren't welcome at the growler.

Thanks for the feedback.  I was happy to meet you guys and glad you liked the setup.  Sorry our attendance wasn't very good for this game.  Let me know if you're able to make it back for another one and I'll make sure we catch a beer together.

"Not welcome" is a kinda harsh way to put it    For permitting and insurance reasons we had to set it up that way.  Working on trying to change it for the Giants game.  I'll keep ya posted.

This isn't thread worthy but I wanted to post it somewhere.  I was at my party at CANS:RECYCLED during the game.  In case you don't know...I ONLY show the Panthers' game there on all of the TVs.  In the middle of the first quarter three (actually decent looking) girls, all decked out in Falcons gear walk up to me and here is our conversation:

Girls:  "Are you the guy who controls the TVs"

Me:  "I am"

Girls"  "Can you put one of them on the Falcons game:

Me: <chuckling a little> "Absolutely not"

Girls: <shocked, confused look> "Are you being serious"

Me: "I'm dead serious.  This is a Panthers bar. And to be honest, the Falcons are the last team I would put on"

Needless to say....they left

I wish that I could have made it :( As soon as I left Charleston I got stuck in a traffic jam and ended up not getting to Charlotte until 12:30 >. Yeah my buddy arrived late also. He said traffic was backed up on I-26. Through orangeburg and Columbia. Police were escorting double wide trailers down the interstate

    • What are the matchups, stats and superlatives?   I think this will be a hard game. Bucs are a very balanced team on offense:  7th  in total yards per game, 7th in passing, 10th in rushing. Baker is having another career year even better than last year but despite missing his Godwin and Evans. Bucs defense is poor (29th) particularly passing defense, but we’re also depleted in our receiving with Coker and Sanders likely out. Running Chuba is key but their defense is better against the run. (16th) I think this is likely going to require us to score a lot of points to keep up and hopefully the home field advantage tips the scale in our favor. My other concern is our run defense and being able to stop their rookie study Bucky Irving who the Bucs have shifted more carries to recently and he’s averaging 5.4 ypc and knows how to get into the endzone with 5 TDs so far.
    • This is nonsense and you know it. People will be happy when we are consistently and convincingly winning games against good teams. There are people in here talking down to others after losses and barely beating the terrible NY Giants. If you want to strut around here like only you are a real Panthers fan and rage pooing posts because your jimmies are rustled then hey good luck with all that. I hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving.
    • Who had the massive meltdown last year? Hope they feel better this year.
