What a difference a single game makes

Then they should probably win a game for him. Vocally supporting a coach means nothing.

Ok, so you pick out one sentence from my post, completely ignore the context of said post and respond with a non-sequitur. Not your best work.

I was responding to the notion that firing him mid-season could "light a fire under" our players asses. I took their vocal support of him (at times unsolicited) as evidence of their buying into his program, buying into him and logically concluded that his firing could be more detrimental than constructive to our success this season. Simple and plain.

If I was going to be baited into playing your game, I'd kindly direct your attention to the latter part of the 2012 season. At a time when they could have bailed on him, when we were clearly on the outside of the playoffs looking in, they continued to fight.

Greg Olsen following the last game of the season: "For us to finish the season the way we did just shows how much faith we have in Coach Rivera and this organization and the direction we're headed. It's just the number one act of good faith in his favor saying, hey, we support him, we want to play for him. And I think the results have spoken for themselves the last couple weeks."

One tough loss suffered yesterday at the hands of a very worthy does not change that.

I don't see this team firing the coach midseason just doesn't seem to be JR's M.O ( but then again he did crap can Hurney mid season). Only way I see anything like that happening is if DG forces the issue. if this team tanks again we will have to suffer through 17 weeks of a lame duck staff and that would suck big time. On second blush after the game yesterday, they are improved on defense a great deal...so I give RR credit for that. But regardless if they start going into a tail spin then changes will be coming again, regardless of the improvement.

It would be interesting to see just how quickly the fanbase disengages if we do go 0-2 with a loss to BUFFALO. I posted that thing about us not being over .500 since 2008, I think that is suffocating this fanbase. I volunteer with local high school kids and I've never seen so much apathy after an Opening Day loss. After years of torment, the margin of error this franchise has with fans is razor thin.

If losing another game gets rid of some of these "fans", I honestly don't see that as a problem. That's the only benefit I can see to losing. Drop some unneeded and dead weight from the fanbase.

Going 0-2 this season could almost end our season, or, at least demoralize the fanbase to the point of complete apathy.

0-3 would be the end of Rivera's head coaching job.

The morale of the fanbase and the morale of the players are two very different things (and the first doesn't mean much to the second).

Of course they're not.

But, who buys the tickets? The jerseys? Goes to the website?

You think Jerry Richardson would enjoy seeing an empty, blacked out Sunday game?

But our players all seem to be behind RR. They responded well towards the end of last season. Some have been very vocal in their support of the current regime. I'm not sure his firing--mid-season, no less--would be as well received among the guys in our locker room as it would be among those who populate our little corner of the interwebs.

I really don't care about whether they like Ron Rivera or not.

I care about wins.

I doubt people play(ed) for Walsh, Bellinchek, Parcells, Landry et al loved those coaches.

I get sick and tired of Ron and his players 'we competed'.   You know, in our 'process' we competed.  Screw tht.

Who gives a damn, this is not horse shoes.  It is Wins that count.

Quote, 'you play to win the game'.

I'm watching Chip Kelly right now, and I'll tell you what, Rayzor was right.

And firing Rivera after week three makes that better how?

Coaches they get fired in midseason generally have more things going on than losing records. As often as not, there's locker room division or the whole team is just a dumpster fire.

For whatever the fans think, Rivera is still very well liked by the players and the team morale is fine. For that matter, when was the last time the stadium didn't sell out, even in a bad season?

Those signs doing exactly point to a mid-season termination.
