Our Shula ran offense was better in every facet over Chud's offense against Seattle last year

Last year:

First downs: 13

Third down efficiency: 2-11

Total plays: 52

Total Yards: 190

Yards per play: 3.7

Possessions: 12

Yards per pass 3.7

sacks: 4

Rushing yards: 82

Yards per rush: 4.3

Red Zone TDs: 0/2

TOP: 24:14

Points:  6

This Year:

First downs:  17

Third down efficiency: 5-11

Total plays:50

Total yards: 253

Yards per play: 5.1

Total Possessions: 9

Yards per pass: 5.4

Rushing yards: 134

Yard per rush:  5.2

red Zone TDs: 1/1

TOP: 29:46

Points:  7

So according to that we were actually more aggressive and way more successful than we were last year in every facet.  All in 3 less possessions!!!

So what am I supposed to be worrying about again?

If our defense brings it every week like yesterday, we are going to be fine.

Shula >>>> Chud

I believe it because they acknowledged it publicly the day after the game... Rivera knows he can't wait till we go 2-8 before he starts making changes this time around.

Why do people think it's important what Rivera knows? All the knowing in the world is useless unless you can do something with it, which he has not proven that he can. Ever.

of course we only need to score 7 to win, right?

ok...14. no big deal. scoring more than that? come on...it's not madden.

I get it, but every game shouldn't be a shoot out, and we were better in literally every facet of the game this year over last year on offense against the same team.  There isn't a single statistic we didn't improve on.

So I think the offense will be better than last year.  Based on the limited amount of data that is all I can assume.

of course they will. if greg had caught those two passes we'd have had plenty more opportunities, cam would've probably gone over 200 yards, possibly for two touchdowns if deangelo hadn't fumbled on the seahawks 8, beating NFC powerhouse seattle 14-12 (or better.) this would've been a great statline against an elite team, and this thread wouldn't exist.

deanglo's fumble and olsen's drops had nothing to do with whether or not the offense was "opened up."

true, but there's no denying that the game was called conservatively. the only thing left to find out is if that's our weekly offense or simply the gameplan against seattle's vaunted defense.

if what they say is true, our offense will look different.

Again, we outperformed Chud's offense in every facet over last season's match up.

knowing is half the battle, but no battle ever half fought was ever won.

same with shula. he should know more about how to be a successful OC, but i have yet to see him do it.

doing better than chud in a game where we crapped the bed last year isn't really reaching lofty goals.

who is calling for a shoot out? i swear this is too funny when someone says "we should have been able to score twice" is interpreted as calling for a shootout or comparable to playing madden.

and comparing to chud last year in one game where we failed last year isn't really something i can get giddy about.

we should have and could have done better, esp. with them missing so many D players. we didn't.

based on the limited amount of data i've seen, our offense is still going to be insufficient to win many games.

True.  But is the only data we have available to compare.  We looked better in every way.  We only scored 7 points but I think that had more to do with the nature and context of the game than actual offensive futility.

I get the point, that we only scored 7 points.  But against that defense we did not put ourselves in good situations to score more points.  When we had opportunities we messed up.

I was overall, encouraged by our offense yesterday.  I realize that doesn't seem to make sense, maybe not even to me :P, but I am.

I think if we can stay on track we will be a very good offensive team.  I don't want our staff to overreact and then over-correct because of one game.

We did good things yesterday.
