Rivera Presser at 12:30

We have awful corners...I think Munnerlyn got beat by every receiving option they had...his man just never went deep like that.

I agree our CBs don't seem to be impact players.  Thank goodness we have a dominant front seven.  At the end of the year they might be considered the best in football.

Highlights from Rivera presser:

2) offense needs to throw more,

3) yesterday's lack of deep passes a combo of play calls & Cam playing it safe,

4) Armanti will get more reps, they were concerned about his hamstring yesterday,

I'm confused. The Panthers had 49 offensive plays yesterday with 25 of them being called pass plays, we'll say 50%. All we've been told for the last 8 weeks, if not longer, is the Panthers return to a power running game. But Rivera says they need to throw more.

Who cares if Edwards is healthy or not? It's not like the #2 WR got any looks yesterday, let alone the #4.

Nobody in the nil ran less plays than the Panthers, need to speed it up

You are flat out wrong here.  The coaches call a certain defense because they expect a certain play call/design.  Rivera stated it was Godfrey's responsibility to help cover IF Thomas forced the route inside, which he did not.  The big play was ALL on Thomas.

You can't expect a player to cover something that is responsibility.  I'm assuming you didn't play defense at any level of football or you'd know this.

Na I get the play now after hearing what Rivera had to say...my point goes beyond that specific play.

Mainly..we have no play makers in the secondary..describe that how you will but the fact remains.

it's ultimately his responsibility if the team isn't prepared enough. it's his responsibility if his staff doesn't call the right plays. it's on him if his staff doesn't adapt or the team as a whole doesn't produce enough.

he's the coach. it's his team. it's on him if they don't win.

that's not to say, and i know that this is what people are going to assume,  that i'm saying he's solely to blame. he was not faultless. he was not without blame. he was part of a team problem and he wasn't a part of the solution.

accept blame for your part in a loss as the leader of the team. own it when your team doesn't finish the game with a win. leaders don't point fingers...at least without acknowledging that the other fingers point back at him.

I think he did acknowledge that several times.  He didn't cost us the game yesterday.  Really if you want to see where the blame lies look one place.  We had two turnovers they had one.  One of those was Deangelo's of course.  Our other fumble completely changed the dynamic of field position in a defensive game in the second half.

That is really what it all came down to yesterday.  Two fumbles.  Because of that fumble in punt covereage we ended up with only 3 possessions with starting field position of our own 10, our own 20, and again our own 20.

That is tough sledding against the Hawks.

They had field position of our own 49, then their 35, and their 26 (also their own 8 after Williams fumble)

That difference in starting positions all traces back to that fumbled punt.  That changed everything for this type of game.

Rivera has enough on his resume to question him.  I am not saying Rivera is the greatest coach.  but yesterday was not an example of poor coaching costing us a win.  At least in my humble opinion

This.

Turnovers cost us the game. Thomas and Williams.

Gameplan was good for Seattle. No gameplan is perfect but that was a solid one for the matchup and no reason to think we wouldn't of won without the turnovers. To best the really really good teams players can't shoot us in the foot.

who is wanting him to overreact?

most just want him to accept blame and not downplay the loss. what's so bad about that?

they are expecting something they aren't going to get, The panthers don't want him to say something that may hurt ticket sales, seriously what he says in public is only what the panthers PR people say is ok to say, behind closed doors is a different story all together.

It's like all the years John Fox was here, I could still probably do one of his press conferences but you would hear that in the locker room he was fire and brimstone. Press conferences doesn't make a coach good or bad (RR and BB in the AFCE for example) it's just something that the fans bitch about because they can like little babies.

I came into this thread looking for what was said and all I ended up seeing was a bunch of crybabies with hurt feelings.

Rivera said flat out that wasn't on Godfrey.  He could be protecting him or whatever but he said that was on Thomas.

And also, Thomas had decent coverage that time (unlike the play before).  Not great coverage, but decent and Wilson threw a perfectly placed pass and the guy made a good grab.

I was listening to the radio broadcast during both of those plays. On the first play, as it was happening they were pointing out Thomas getting beat before the throw was even made.  They then said that if the Panthers want to play man to man Thomas needs to step it up because they would go after him again. Sure enough that is what happened, they also said immediately after the TD that it was all on Thomas getting flat out beat again and Godfrey was not supposed to be there it help him in that situation.

Take that for what it's worth, but it sure seemed like they knew what they were seeing.

So was captain getting beat like a drum or was that the zone breaking down because of Wilson buying time.......i saw on a couple plays cap jump the route but the receiver moved over a bit and made a decent gain, pretty sure on one of tates big gains that's exactly what happened him and one of our lb jumped a curl route but the receiver slid over and made the catch and run.....not making excuse for cap just curious

It sound rediculous when you look at Russell's stats to say this but our secondary wasn't as bad yesterday as we think.

Russell Wilson was harassed all day but he extended plays with his feet and if a guy does that eventually guys are going to get open. Several plays Russell did not have an open guy initially but was able to scramble around and he is so accurate on the run that he was able to make plays.

This. I was also listening and noticed the same thing. They ran the same play after they saw what Thomas did, and plugged in a receiver with fresh legs. He was playing up tight on the fly route. The Seattle coaches noticed, and took advantage.

this is exactly what i was thinking, don't get me wrong Wilson played good but i felt those 3rd and 15-20 we put him in were half the reason he passed over 300 yards,every-time they would get within 5 yards of the first down with a drag or dump off route.....makes our secondary look like they suck when they actually don't.....as much at least

Tickets are already sold... the announcement on the big screen yesterday at the stadium announcing the 105th or 106th consecutive sell out.

PSLs, remember? The team only retains about 2500-2800 single game tickets on hand and those were sold back in April May.

But you're right, honor among players and the entire nature of the team concept would never allow for anyone to start telling the public what goes on behind closed doors in the locker room or meeting rooms.

    • At this rate, maybe he'll be a decent 8-9 QB on his 3rd HC by year 6. Standards are so low around here now. Tepper has done some serious damage to the fan base.
