Whose Harbaugh?

Or is that joke too old?

I seriously hope JR just lets Gettleman do all the work in finding the next coach without offering any input because this isn't like managing Harris Teeter and Gettleman has been an exec in the business for years.

My worst fear is that Gettleman finds a good candidate with a great football acumen and JR kiboshes it because "he's not a defensive coach myah" and we end up hiring another glazed over defensive coordinator whose offensive knowledge amounts to zilch and we toil in mediocrity for another 3-4 years.

at some point you have to think that sticking to your D minded coach philosophy just doesn't work anymore.

I agree, I would put the onus on Gettleman and let him find whoever he deems necessary.

It is very obvious that JR has no idea how to pick a HC, and you can argue his credibility as an owner in general.

It is easy to tell the difference between a poor scheme and poor execution. Poor scheme results in run plays getting easily stuffed and no receivers open.   What I saw was poor execution, fumbles, dropped passes and poor special teams play.  That had little to do with Shula.  Seattle did not stop us that often, we stopped ourselves.

I saw some of both but do agree. The offense was like the rebirth of Jeff davidson

Anybody who watched that game and thought the defense didn't do it's job doesn't understand football.  Outside of the stupid, stupid, stupid penalty by Frank Alexander, the defense played amazingly well.

Even the touchdown pass was a better throw than it was awful coverage.  It wasn't the best coverage, but I tip my hat to R Wilson on a great throw.

The offense has to score more than 7 points, no matter who we play or how good their defense is.  Beyond that, as fans we don't totally know what was holding them back.  Probably a combination of both.  I didn't like some of the predictable 3rd down play calling, but there were dropped balls, non-targets or anyone besides Smitty and Olsen, and I'm sure other factors.  Bottom line is they didn't get it done.

Seattle was picked as a Championship team for a reason- they are really good.  But at the same time, the Panthers need to beat teams like that to get noticed and respected, and they yet again couldn't do it.

It's tough to go gangbusters blaming anyone yesterday b/c outside of some dumb penalties, the team played good, but just not good enough to win.

Pretty much been the mantra of the Ron Rivera Era.  This has been a tough 4 year run as a fan.

But still, the defense looked legit, Star looked amazing, and the offense has the talent to score some points.  They definitely need a win next week

Agreed on defense except for the two bombs in a row where Josh Thomas was burned . One was dropped and the other set up a score.

I'll never understand why people put so much time into posts about how we should have done this and not that or if only Rivera did this.

At the end of the day, your opinion doesn't matter because JR ain't logging on to The Huddle anytime soon.

Quit being an "in the stands" coach and just focus on pulling for the Panthers.

If we dedicated as much time to the team as we do trying to be armchair coaches then maybe we would actually have a solid fan base.

The bottom line is, no one wants to hear your bitching over something that you have no control over.

You do realize you're essentially saying the people shouldn't do the one thing an open forum is designed to deliver right?  Disagree with it all you want, but saying that we should quit analyzing the game and just come here and pump sunshine while waving pom poms is pretty ridiculous.

I so don't want to accept this is a lost season already, but I think that was decided when they kept Rivera. He is ridiculously in over his head on so many decisions that you take for granted with an average head coach.

His problem isn't his fault its ours. His problem is that he is a very good defensive coordinator he's not a head coach. He doesn't have "it". I was at the game and If you had no knowledge of either team you would't know who our head coach was. Pete clearly stood out as the leader of that football team.

The defense is always going to be good(until it matters), but the reason why we can never get an overall good performance is because we don't have a head coach. We are the Saints of last year but we are on our 3rd year without a head coach.

What I don't get is why people are acting like the Panthers are the only team that has to deal with penalties, losing fumbles, and drops?  Good teams overcome those things.  Good teams score more than one Touchdown.  Yesterday we were great on one side of the ball, and average on the others....

Since when was this forum designed for people to share their personal coaching philosophies?

I was under the impression that Zod to talk about Panthers football, not what Panthers football should look like.

If you wanna be a coach, go get madden or go to college and get a degree to be a coach.

An open forum implies there is no rules.

Zod specifically said no WTF, Fire Rivera, etc... threads.

Now we have a bunch of 35 year old guys who think they can coach because they were a decent high school player.

There are some guys that clearly have a background in football and make solid posts, but for every one of those guys there are five guys who think they are better than Coach Rivera.

It's time to stop living in a fantasy land, you are a fan not a coach.

Life becomes much more enjoyable when you get the opportunity to just be a fan.

I had the opportunity to work with a coaching football staff last year and it is one of the most stressful things ever. I missed the majority of Panthers and CFB games because I had to input stats and go over film from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on the weekends and then 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. (after class) on weekdays.

People on this forum really don't understand what all goes into coaching at the college or pro level. I didn't even do 1/4 of what Rivera has to do and I believe coaching is one of the hardest jobs that there is.
