Godfrey...

Rivera seem to have praised him in his press conference. To be fair, I doubt any Safety would've gotten over the top on that TD. Especially with the QB breaking the pocket the way Russell did.

As quick as Thomas got beat of the line...you would think your FS would be able to see and realize what was going down. Especially since it was a repat of what just happened.

Godfrey is trouble in space back there....he looks pretty good when he comes up close to the line and has man coverage or blitzes. But he has never been a FS.

Godfrey is simply a JAG.  He makes plays sometimes, he screws up sometimes.  He worthy of being a starter.  That's all there is to be said about him.  Is he Ed Reed?  No.  But you need guys like him on your team.  He should be the least of our concerns.

I just don't know what to think about him anymore, he made one good play(and that play was nullified) he cannot wrap up, he was out of position on that TD. I think if he doesn't improve his play soon he'll be asked to take a pay cut, or he'll be out the door next off season.

He actually wasn't out of position. That wasn't a bump your man and drop into zone. The receiver beat Thomas in man coverage on the play before that and they decided to test him on the very next play, beating him for a TD. Godfrey's job was to cover the middle of the field there. Almost any safety in the league could be beat in that same position.

Josh Thomas just got his number called twice and he lost both times. Sorry to bust your balls JT but the radio analysts agree with me and are former NFL players, your main argument is refuted.

It's pretty much the only thing he ever posts.  Doesn't sound like he has anything else to offer but the same dumb post over and over.

As to Godfrey, he is - and always has been - inconsistent.  He gets on the highlight reels with big hits, but he also makes his fair share of bad mistakes every game.

Godfrey is just OK and that's all he's ever been, would be nice if we could get another quality safety like Minter again or Harris, but oh well

He wouldn't be that bad if we had legit corners.....but he will make a weak or average corner look worse than he is bc he will leave him out to dry.

Just saw his cap number goes from 3 million to 7.1 million in 2014.

that is absolutely insane if that's true. holy fug.

that being said, he's not as bad as many people here seem to think. sure, he was late on the help on that long TD, but fact of the matter is thomas got torched twice on back to back plays by not so good receivers.

3mil seems a little high for him... 7 mil is absolutely mindblowing.

it was a good play call though. The first pass should have been caught by Seattle. Heads up coaching by Seattle run the exact same play with a fresh pair of legs, against the same corner. Thomas was probably gassed from the first play. Still not an excuse though.

    • Easily. To be able to plug in a backup LT without much drop off from your starter? That could mean the difference between playoffs or sitting at home in January. Good/serviceable smart young and healthy LTs that won’t lose you a ball game at reasonable $$ don’t just come along every day. Everyone talks about the most important positions on a football team… backup LT is in the top 10.  Picture next year… the team is scrappy and competitive, 4 and 3 record, second place in the South. Morale is good. devastating run game that Let’s our marginal defense get plenty of rest. We play the Bucs and win, going to 5 and 3, but we lose Ickey to a high ankle sprain. Atl loses that week and are now at 5 and 3 as well. There is no Ickey and no BC because we let him go… and we go in to Atl the next week for a battle of first in the south. Week after that is the Jets…. Now they lose both by 10 and 3, respectively, and fall to 5 and 5 going in to their bye week. Atl is at 7 and 3. Out of typical Panthers desperation, they try to rush Ickey back in to the lineup with a saints game coming up…  Back to good old Panthers football, always playing catchup. Another season at .500 and the fans sadly rejoice in mediocrity, when playoffs were in reach. This team always overestimates its ability to pick up quality o line depth in the draft or FA and it always blows up in their faces. Like Chuba, I see him as being part of the core that Dan is trying to build. Work on his contract now and see if we can come out with something mutually beneficial. I’d consider 3 yrs at $25m to be very fair.
    • it would be great to have "double trouble" again, I even had a T- shirt for Williams and Stewart and the double trouble logo, was a great time to be Panthers fan. We shall see...
    • Sounds like a plan. Those are the teams we should be mimicking! lol
