I'm worried about Rivera

Maybe subconsciously, this is the reason the Panthers always find a way to lose. Cause deep down inside they know their coach doesn't burn with every loss.

Maybe you put a coach out there with a higher standard, and less tolerance to lose, and all of a sudden the Players stop making those dumb plays which lose games.

Just a thought.

PS: I been worried about Rivera for 3 seasons now.

No doubt that played a role, but I'm just saying he threw the coaches under the bus early, but after we started winning games that don't matter other than giving casual fans false hope, everyone got all sunshine and rainbows and forgot about it.

This team knows Ron is a joke of a HC. They even take shots at him now without even knowing it (like how Chud basically ran poo here).

I'm not exaggerating because its our team, but I have never seen a HC as consistently confused and in over his head as Rivera always is.

And his QB's reputation, stats and legacy suffer for it/him every day due to this.

I'm so tired of the excuses.  I'm tired of hearing "if the players would execute" or whatever.  I feel like I've been hearing that for half a decade now.  Rivera clearly has left an imprint on the D in some ways, but it seems like the team as a while just can't pull it out in close games that really matter.

Rivera never presents a face to the media that suggests he has something to prove.  I'm not going to say that is how he is in the locker room.  I get it, logically, we're a bad team and we should be happy with effort.  But I don't like hearing a coach say that, no matter how true it may be, no matter what he may be saying behind closed doors.

Go into games expecting to win, and get angry when you lose... Meh.

So why are you worried? This is exactly what he did last year. This felt so much like 2012; I can't even tell there was a spring and summer in between. I literally don't believe it.

Rivera has learned nothing. he has no killer instinct. I was in his corner in 2011 as much as anyone, and I saw last year that this will never be a guy who wins a playoff game or likely even gets to one.

Because that is the "there is always next week" mentality from last season. There is no urgency.

Well, how the fug do you expect him to act? It is what it is. I am sure he is as frustrated as anyone, but I don't expect him to act like Jim Mora or Denny Green. That's not his style. Perhaps he should put a towel over his head and mope.

I was chilling at the Seahawk SB Nation page earlier and they tend to agree that Rivera lacks a killer instinct (no surprise there).

Ironically, Pete Carroll is white version of Chico but Pete knows when and how to adjust to opposing offenses and defenses.

LOL, you should check out the meltdown on falconslife. They also think Mike Smith has no killer instinct. NFL fans know more than any actual coach out there.

Even if Rivera ever made it to the playoffs. I don't see him as a year in year out playoff guy. I see him as a good year, bad year, mediocre year type head coach, cause he appears to have low standards.

If the Eagles drop 35 on the Skins, everyone here will be licking their chops the Panthers didn't even make a bid on Chip Kelly when many thought he'd be perfect for the team, and wanted to be in here.

I dont want Kelly either. He's a gimmick, and I think he'll flop.

But man I think we should have gotten rid of of tumor Rivera before things started to spread...

I played sports my whole life.  I have played for numerous coaches and have played for successful teams everywhere I have been, but some of those programs had some growing pains with a couple of bad seasons as we developed into great teams.  Whatever.

I can say with a high degree of confidence, that the worst coaches I have ever played for are the ones that rip their guys after losses.  Either publicly, or privately.  Even more so after a tough loss like that.

Nobody wants to win more.  Nobody feels worse.  Nobody is lower.  Than those players.  Ripping guys and getting mad after a loss is self defeating.  It is counter productive.  It does not help, and it does not instill a sense of urgency.  If anything it drives friction between coaches and players

It isn't about "sense of urgency".  That is a cliche.  Players want to win every game already.  But in situations like this it is just as important to keep the guys confidence up, as it is to tear them down.

As a coach, you tell your guys something like "That is a damn good football team, and you guys know we should have beat em.  If we don't make these little mistakes we win that game.  Now you guys know that we are as good as anyone in this league.  If you guys keep working hard, clean up the mistakes, and play with that type of effort we are going to win a lot of football games.  This is only one game.  We still have 15 more.  When you guys show up for practice be ready to go to work"

That isn't "Oh well guys, we'll get them next time"

It is just as important to make them feel like they are just as good as those guys.  That actually feeds hunger and fuels confidence.  We want this team to feel like they are as good as anybody and should or can beat anybody.  Contrary to some people's beliefs, going to players who are already upset and pissed and and telling them "Losing isn't tolerated here!!" achieves the opposite effect.

Great post, no point in kicking them when they are already down. Good way to lose the locker room IMO.

People just need to face the facts, this was a damn good gridiorn battle and unfortunately we came out on the wrong end of it.

    • At this rate, maybe he'll be a decent 8-9 QB on his 3rd HC by year 6. Standards are so low around here now. Tepper has done some serious damage to the fan base.
