If Panthers get off to slow start, Rivera may be fired by the BYE suggests Sharpe

Yeah, but he said by week 3.  Who in their right mind would fire a coach that early?

Yeah, that would be beyond ridiculous. Why even bring him back if his leash is that short?

On the other hand, if we're blown out every game and the offense is 2010-ish, then maybe, maybe JR and Gettleman take a hard look at the cause. Could spell trouble for Shula.

I really hope Richardson isn't the one making this decision. If he is this franchise is going to be held back until he croaks. I hope Gettleman has enough balls to tell Jerry to STFU and kick Rivera out the door.

All I read was "Dear Zod, ban me cuz I'm an idiot"

Who gets promoted to head coach? Shula? Mcdonalds?

Sent from my SCH-I545 using CarolinaHuddle mobile app

Hard to say.  Often the coach will recommend that; it tends to make sense to promote a coordinator, however there are internal problems with that.  To keep the continuity, I'd keep the coordinators as-is and promote Skipper, who also has some administrative time under his belt.  This also has been the case for a lot of interim head coaches over the Rooney Rule period, whether that has relevance or not.

Shula's been a head coach, but you'd be left wanting for a coordinator for the year. The remaining pieces from the passing game are terribly young.  Skipper, I guess, could do that.    McDermott is a guy who had head coaching cred a few years ago, but that puts another loyal Rivera guy from his other two stops - Wilks - as the DC, and I don't know if that would mesh as well.  Wilks was brought in as the guy who'd have replaced McDermott if this past year had not improved.

So by week 4 we'd fire our head coach who the players really buy in to and promote one of two under-qualified coordinators?

That would pretty much be saying the season is over.  Sharper is pulling poo out of his ass, like he always does.

I don't agree with the whole "players buy into Rivera" argument anymore. Its important to have a coach that the players are willing to go out and fight for, but if they're not winning games whats the point. I'd much rather have a coach who the players tolerate and wins than a coach who the players adore with a losing record.
