Greg Cosell critiques Cams throwing style

That's one point I disagree on. I don't believe that LaFell is a no.2 receiver, but I do think that Lafell would succeed with a Manning, Brady, or Brees. I don't blame it on Cam, but more in that average receivers can often look great playing with those guys I mentioned above; i.e. Collie, Decker, Meachem, etc.

Like i said i was fine with it until he said that when that came out i got the "agenda" vibe. If Lafell was viewed as a legit #2 there would be a contract done before the season. Would Lafell look better with Manning or Brady? Of course but so would I. Make no mistake Cam's "throwing style" is being critiqued because of 13-19. If he was 20-12 with two playoff appearances we wouldn't be having this conversation. If he's winning it works if he's not that's the reason why. Winning cures all, but thats a team thing not a Cam Newton thing.

Like he said Washington, San Fran, and Seattle, are run first teams. These last two years we have been a Cam save us team.

I don't want this conversation to drag out because it makes it seem like I think Cam is perfect and does no wrong. He has areas he needs to improve in and so does all young qbs. The difference is their deficiencies are masked by team success.

Finished listening.  Pretty good analysis.

If you break it all down, Cosell is just saying what plenty of people have said.  Newton needs to be the best passer he can be if he's going to have long term success in the NFL.

The quote about how all the highlight reel stuff looks great on Sportscenter but doesn't win championships is something I've said almost exactly in this forum and to friends.

Bottom Line: It's always been true, but the rules today make it even more so.  Pro quarterbacks rise and fall on their ability to pass effectively.  Talk all you want about how the league is 'changing' and pocket passers will someday be obsolete.  People have been saying that for over twenty years, and it's no closer to happening today than it was then.

You can call Brett Favre a gunslinger but he truly was accurate in his prime. His mental game varies greatly from a Peyton Manning but his mechanics were always sound. (sans the random underhanded touchdown pass with 4 guys hanging on him).

Favre was good for at least two or three  'what the @#$%' throws a game right up till the last.  It's what you get with gunslingers.

To be clear though, you can definitely win championships with a gunslinger QB.  You've just gotta handle them appropriately.  Coach to maximize the good, minimize the bad and keep receivers who can adjust.  There are always gonna be those moments of 'huh" in the game, but you hope for as few as possible.

The bit about Gettleman being new and his "it's time to win" comment and them talking about how he didn't draft Cam and speculating was the only thing I couldn't agree with. Cam is not the problem holding this team back.

This season hinges on Rivera and Shula, plain and simple.

I enjoy listening to Cosell. He brings a truly unique insight to the game from in an unbiased manner.

He will be on 610 the fan every Friday morning at 8:15 AM if you are from the Charlotte area or you can visit the website on Friday evenings and listen to his interview for those that are interested.

Don't let the truth piss you off.  I hope we see better fundamentals.  However, I think he needs protection and weapons first.   Having said that, I think we need to attack the CBs vs.  Seattle.  If they want to put those two on an island, then we need to counter with speed.  A lot of gos and stop routes.  Those big CBs won't be able to handle that if the timing is there.  Ginn will play a key role.  Watch.

Cam can show great mechanics and accuracy....

I remember a lot of Favre forgetting about his mechanics and relying on his power arm instead...and IMO you don't lead the NFL in INTs just being an accurate gunslinger

Only issue is Cam needs time to attack the CBs with speed. Need the routes to develop

I agree to expedite the improvement he needs an OL and a running game.
