What are the requirements these days to buy an assault rifle?

I'm pretty sure there are different requirements for getting a semi-automatic and a fully automatic. I'd like to get a fully automatic to take to a range and shoot (not for HD) but it seems to be a huge pain in the ass.

Too much paperwork and long wait but it's doable.

Rifles that meet most of these criteria, but not all, are technically not assault rifles despite frequently being considered as such. For example, semi-automatic-only rifles like the AR-15 (on which the M16 rifle is based) that share parts or design characteristics with assault rifles are not assault rifles, as they are not capable of switching to automatic fire and thus are not selective-fire capable.

Illegal... labeled as destructive device.  I would love Armsel Striker... would be best home defense shotty but they also dimmed destructive device and are illegal.

But if you go across the boarder to mexico, you can easily purchase one... its just hard bringing it back...

Whatever makes u feel better. Even tho AR15 can be modified to fully automatic.

You can modify almost any semi auto to at least burst, some to full auto. I've heard people talk about full auto on an AR-15; haven't seen it on modern versions (post 1980s).

What barrel length did you get?

16'

If fully auto was legal I would bring few russian AK47 back from the motherland. I got some good connections in the old country.
