A lot of remakes are just updating the CGI with nothing more, kinda a wash, rinse, repeat. Even with a huge improvements in quality of a movies scenes, it's pretty hollow if everything else is the same. A few exceptions have come along where they took a new perspective and retold the story better than original. The Michael Keaton Batman vs Christian Bale Batman have been a huge difference and the latter a huge upgrade.

As for classics like Neverending Story, I'm not sure making a visually nicer movie will capture what made that movie so special to many and so nostalgic. I can even think that a movie like Flash Gordon where the quality of special effects was pretty mediocre, even for the time, I think the movie may even get worse if redone in modern fashion.

what gets lost the most in the remakes/reboots is the original spirit of the first film. some things you can't replicate.

take Jaws. part of what made it great was accidental. they didn't have the shark ready so Spielberg had to show the shark little by little which added to the lore of the film.

some things you just can't repeat.

The thing about The Never Ending Story is that the original only covered the first half of the book. The second half about Bastian's time actually in Fantasia is also awesome but darker. They made The Never Ending Story II but completely fugged it up. I wouldn't mind it if they could do the second half of the book justice in a sequel.

I guess I felt the first one was incomplete even though it was an awesome movie that I loved.

But I also fear that they would completely fug up how magical that movie was and make it to over the top with either action or have CGI and special effects overwhelm the heart of the movie.

I'm conflicted bc it is a tricky story to tell and attract the masses without ruining the heart of the story.

Movie was too short.  Right when it started getting going, it ended.  Like a lot of movies, they banked on a sequel and cut it short, like that movie Jumper some years back that had potential.    I respect that they didn't try to copy everything though and made their own version of the film.  Main guy is a good actor and was decent with what he had to work with.

    • There's some big assumptions in here - first, I think Canales HAS helped Bryce a poo ton. To pretend he hasn't is asinine. Has he fixed him?  I mean, the dude looks like he could perhaps be a backup or low-end starter now, whereas he looked like he didn't belong in the NFL a year ago. You're talking about a coach that brought one of the worst NFL QBs of all time to a point where he may actually be a low-end starter. That IS impressive. Second, the bolded. Come on - given the offense, the dude is far from "trending towards bust." He definitely needs work but he's shown an impressive ability to get open. He's contributing to an anemic offense. The dude is our leading receiver (though he'll be #2 in yardage by end of season by a little, as Thielen does better per game).  As to his coaching, he had this team competing and believing against 3 of the better teams in the NFL, despite the lack of talent, and despite our QB situation.  Yes, things fell apart vs DAL, and he was outcoached. But that will happen with young coaches IMO.  I don't think it indicates he cant' be better. The idea of "pulling off the bandage" is ridiculous. Who would want to coach here if we fired this guy after one season?
    • Whatever they are in totality the cowboys are beat up all to hell on both sides of the ball and even that was too much for lil Bryce to overcome.  Bryce defenders have to hype up every other team and trash every other part of the panthers just because of the situation they’ve put themselves in.
    • JB had a first round grade in the eyes of a lot scouts based on HIS TALENT LEVEL. If not for the injury he would have gone higher in the draft, possibly between the middle and the end of round 1. To get him just before the 50th pick is a steal. He'd be on a 4 year deal. You can't even renegotiate until the end of the season 3. You're basically paying him nothing for 3 seasons. I don't buy into all back are interchangeable. No they're not. You have average backs, good backs, then your great-exceptional backs. The latter category doesn't grow on trees. If a back is special it pays to keep them. The key is knowing the difference between the first two categories and the third one.
