TE Brandon Williams = Julius Thomas

Julius Thomas, former Portland State basketball player, puts up 110 yds and 2 tds for Denver. He is eerily similar to Brandon Williams in build (Thomas 6'5 240lbs, Williams 6'4 250), speed, ability, and rawness. I say fug Harstock and Brockel, get this man the rock!

I very much wanted Julius Thomas a couple years ago in the draft.  I yelled at Fox when Denver took him "Fox won't use him anyway!!".  Glad we got Williams now, but I wish we had gotten Thomas back then too.  Coulda used one of the picks we used on Fua or McClain on him :(

Let's also pump the brakes on anointing Julius Thomas as the next Antonio Gates based on one half of football.  Plenty of no-names have had a good half of football - especially if they have an all-time great feeding them the football.  Also, Welker/Thomas/Decker >>>>> Smitty/who?/oh fug!

Agreed, I just think their talents are similar, and would hate for another underutilized-Tolbert-esque situation to occur.

 

However, I am no way saying Williams will surpass Olsen or become the next Gates, I just miss the 2 TE receiving combo.

He now has 6 career catches.  He had 5 catches for 110 yards and 2 TDs tonight.  4 catches, 97 yards, and both TDs came in the 1st half.  There's a good chance we just witnessed a flash in the pan.  Time will tell.  At this point, I'd be happy if Brandon Williams simply produced a flash in the pan.  He's low risk, high reward.

No one here has anointed Williams as the next great TE. 

 

All I was trying to say is that their talents are similar. Just a flash in the fan? Probably. Doesn't negate the fact that we can get excited over another diamond-in-the-rough prospect.

I don't know he looked pretty for real and Welker and the other WRs looked pretty open in the 2nd half magically.

You might miss the 2 TE combo, but B-Will isn't going to see the field in such packages unless his blocking gets much better, because you lose the functionality of that package (by showing run and then play action pass) when you put a player on the field that can't run block. I'm optimistic he'll learn, but it will take time.
