A bold prediction would be to say that the Panthers will actually play up to their potential and not look particularly inept in any one area.

 

If that happens, I think it will go something like...

 

Hard fought.  Neither team dominates, but Panthers win the turnover battle 3 to 1.  Defense gives the ball to the offense twice in Seattle territory resulting in 10 points.  We win 26-16.  

 

Kuechly has a TFL, INT, and FF.  DL gets 3 sacks. 

Cam makes a few outstanding plays with only one bad mistake right after halftime.  

Ginn has two nice returns but no TDs.  

Smitty gets about 50 yards.  

Olsen leads all receivers with 8 catches and a TD.

All RBs combine for 75 yards (Cam adds 40 of his own) and it is enough.  OL manages to pass block pretty well and that is enough.

Seattle DBs can't cover all of Cam's options with Ginn demanding deep coverage on the outside and Smitty finds pockets in the slot.  The screen and read-option packages work.

Shula calls a pretty tight game.

 

All in all a pretty complete performance.

Seachickens try covering Ginn by pressing early, they can't, he outruns them all so they put 2 on Ginn which leaves Smitty one on one. TD!  Then they also put 2 on Smitty, playing 6 back, pulling bodies from the box to do it and DeAngelo runs wild behind Tolbert.  If they don't, they play zone and are torched. 

 

Lynch can't run through the middle of our line so he tries going outside and is stuffed by our LB's.  Wilson lives despite 4 sacks, one by Star.  He's intercepted by a tipped ball meant for Tate.  One of the Joshes.

 

Special teams give us good field position all day and limit Seattle to the shadow of their goal posts.

 

Carroll hangs his head all afternoon pacing the sideline.

 

24 - 9 Panthers

Fearless prediction: It was a good decision when I started the Panthers d over the Broncos d in fantasy.

 

That'll be the last time I talk about fantasy.

Until now.

 

I have looked ahead to Sunday's matchup between the Panthers and the Seahawks. In my pumpkin beer induced stuper, the following visions came to me.

 

Spoiler Alert.

 

1. Mike Shula impresses. I have had many doubts about Shula, having lived in Tampa during his stint with the Bucs as their OC. Shula eases my fears on Sunday by calling a legitimate NFL game. He gets the Panthers back to a running team and even uses an i-formation from time to time (shocking!). Handoffs to Deangelo Williams out of the shotgun for a loss of two yards are a thing of the past.

 

2. Russell Wilson is sacked 3 times and hurried most of the game. The Panthers defensive front four, among the best in the entire NFL, wreaks havoc in their coming out party. The national media immediately starts the 'sophomore slump' story line while giving zero credit to the Panthers.

 

3. A surprise hero of the game emerges. Armanti Edwards catches a 4th quarter touchdown pass from Cam Newton to seal the game. Covered by Seahawks nickle Walter Thurmond, Edwards makes a great grab and the crowd goes completely mental. Armanti has had a great camp and preseason, but after his latest injury is ready to prove himself worthy.

 

This Sunday the Carolina Panthers put together the most complete game they have had in years. Offense, Defense, and Special Teams all provide a good performance. Bank of America is energized carrying the momentum to the next home game.

 

Panthers win 24-17.

 

 

 

What are your fearless predictions?

 

 

Zod....your threads in the past week for this game have been absolutely awesome.  You have never been in better form.  Almost got me more excited than Teh Kurb's bant stick.

 

My fearless projection is that you will  be giving Shula props after this game.

 

Panthers D will be declared a weapon of mass destruction.

 

Offense will look a hell of a lot better than expected.

I realize this is Fearless Predictions, so I guess it fits: Hauschka didn't miss from under 50 last year, was perfect over 50 in preseason except a 61 yarder... off the crossbar.

 

So, yeah, it's a fantasy.
