Lets see if I can follow the logic.  A coach called plays that didnt work, in an attempt to move up to higher position, and it was so bad that even Huddle simpletons knew 100% absolute fact that that was exactly going on for weeks when finally the head coach who is fighting for a job  said he said cut it out and everything was great.  

 

This would be like me saying Hurney made bad signings and draft trades in an attempt to land a job with a more prestigious organization because if it worked he would be a genius.  

 

Sounds to me that Smith just doesnt like Chud and Smith not liking someone is nothing new, unless more concrete info is revealed.  If that info cant be revealed for whatever reason then he should not have even brought it up .   

 

Do I agree with Smith that Chud called plays that didnt work?  Yes.  Do I believe he did it for a head coaching job? Wha?  Give me some evidence

I think Chud was displaying his ability to design plays, some of which were brilliant. the only trouble was that they didn't fit the skills of our players and alot of times they didn't fit the situation.

 

I think that was Smitty's point. Chud looked brilliant. team looked inept.

I would not read to much into this.This was an opinion of Smith who obviously had a beef with Chud.

 

Again, he's one of many members of the offense who is saying it. He just happens to be the one guy who won't shut up about it. If memory serves though, all the notable guys on offense (Gross, Tolbert, Williams, Kalil, Olsen, Newton, Smith have publicly complained about Chud sniffing for a head coaching gig by showing how creative he can be instead of actually trying to win a game. The consensus seems to be that he was trying to cash in on the success of Newton and the players felt pretty jilted by that to the point that it was becoming a problem in the locker room. No one (that I've heard or seen) has mentioned how the switch went down, but hints were dropped that suggested Rivera finally had enough of Chud not doing his job and had a come to Jesus moment with him. Pretty much every mention of it, though, got glossed over and not talked about by anyone covering the Panthers....not even really the guys conducting the interviews, now that I think about it. A few of the comments got threads on here, but even then it wasn't a big deal. Was all during the offseason when only the real lunatics are paying attention to the team anyway.

As for providing sourcing, most of the things I heard were in player interviews on the radio, mostly on WFNZ, so there's probably audio of it all available somewhere on their website. Couldn't tell ya actual dates though, so I'm not much help. I'm also an excessive drinker and habitual meth user, so my mind may not be very reliable.

 If you said he lined up Gross out wide last year you would have a point.  But just the fact that Newton lined up out wide does not equal failure.  If I recall, Newton had a big run and catch the year lining up out wide against the Bucs.  Newton is a threat there.

I was screaming for Chud's head last year, so him getting hired by Cleveland made me a happy man.

 

Doesn't matter why he fugged up (trying for HC gig or not). But he did fug up and I'm glad he's gone.

 

 

Edit: I was also calling for Ron's head. However, it's a new season and he gets a clean slate unless he demonstrates that he has not learned from his mistakes. For better or worse, he is our coach and I hope he is very successful. I want this team to win and win now.

Smitty is 100% correct.

Chud did not adapt the offense one bit to what the defense was showing. He tried to impose his boy-wonder plays on opposing defenses. Sometimes it worked. Most of the time it was disastrous.

Its the complete opposite of a real offensive guru like Chip Kelly. Kelly takes what the defense gives him and exploits the weakness. Exact opposite of Chud's cocky gameplan.

I'm just glad that Smitty said what he said, and even happier that it made it to ESPN. What will make me the happiest, is a W come Sunday. Whether or not they "want" to admit it then, it will be obvious to us that the sky is the limit.
