You know the coins you collect in the Mario games? How even though, ultimately, they were meaningless but you would still throw yourself off a cliff just to get a handful more? You ever wonder why, with all those unlimited coins racked up, the dude was still just a freaking plumber? Are the coins worthless, and if they are why collect them in the first place? And then you remember, more coins mean more lives. More chances. Death and failure are meaningless to the power of the coin. Have enough coins, and you are immortal. You can do anything. It really is a great metaphor for the way society views money.
