Cam's Throwing Stance

Matthias

Recommended Posts

I remember reading about this as a kid. He did bat cross-handed as a youngster and was very good

at it. As the coaches tried to move him away from it he would switch back and forth. If their dugout was

on the first base side he would hit traditional but, if the dugout was on the third base side he would hit

cross-handed as the coaches couldn't see his hands. Can't remember how long he did this.

Also......I almost want to say he hit cross-handed (early on) in the majors. Just not sure.

I was better at hitting cross handed than traditional. I'm left handed(luckily I was born after everyone thought that was wrong) and batted right handed but I could hit from the left side as long as my hands with the right on top. More like a smack and run kind of thing like in softball because there was a loss in power but I would be able to drive it out to the outfield.

People would talk about Cam's throwing motion during the draft and I could never understand how they could ding it, because it was a gorgeous high, quick release. Sure, it was a little wrists, but that gave him a huge number of platforms and ways to throw it. It's not how he throws, but his footwork, that was ever an issue. He just has to keep working on setting his feet, but the throw itself is fantastic.

This is one of the things I was trying to tell Matthias the other day, when I was telling him Pro scouts loved Cam much more than the media let on, since they had already isolated his throws and throwing motion, knowing he had an NFL arm for sure. As you said, footwork is much easier to remember (i.e. do/correct), work on.

So it's nice to see him with this post. And of course I gave both you and him pie.  :thumbsu:
