Honda Accord question...

I just bought a 2008 honda accord last month and noticed when the ac is on and I'm driving at night, the headlights would flicker for like half a second every 1 or 2 mintues. I was told by the dealer it's normal. I have never driven a car that has done that before. Are they telling the truth? If not, I have my own mechanic that I trust that I can take it to.

Tough to definitively respond without seeing the flicker - is it just a slight dimming and then back to full brightness? 4-cylinder? If the slight flicker corresponds to the cycling of the compressor then yes, likely normal.

Sounds like electrical problem. My wife used to have 2005 Honda accord and she never had this issue.

It's a fast flicker, but I notice it. It happens every 1-2 minutes. I'm afraid people are going to think I'm flashing them or something. Yes it's a 4 cylinder engine.

You do get an increased electrical load every time the A/C cycles due to the compressor engaging and the rad/cond fans turning on.

Honda will tell you some flickering is normal. I'd still have the battery load tested and ck the connections.

I'd also ck the grounds for the lighting system, especially if there has been a previous front end collision.

So I should probably let my mechanic take a look at it and see if he can do anything eh?

 

If it's normal, this has got to be a really terrible design flaw by Honda. Never seen this before from any vehicle.

I would verify there are no issues, yes, especially if it bugs you.

Ck too it has stock headlamps and not some aftermarket HIDs installed as many people do.

I traded in my 2008 Honda Accord last year but I never had that issue. I would say that it is not normal.

How many miles are on it? This might be the beginning signs that your alternator or battery is going out. Running the AC does create an horsepower and electrical demand. The TSB indicates that this is not uncommon, so it may be nothing.

4 cylinder is the issue here.

 

May try installing a better battery though.

Just be aware that TSB does not apply to the Op's vehicle.
