I went from about 25% respect for Rivera to 0%. fuging idiot.

Why don't you wait until Gettis does something before you go all the down to 0%.....bc if RR deserves that then Gettis will in fact go be productive somewhere.

Another thing to keep in mind is that Olsen is the #2 option on this team. Lafell is really a #3. You add in Hixon and Ginn and Even Edwards that were above him and he wasn't going to see many snaps even if he made the team.

Olsen being a number 2 will be one of the reasons our offense will be mediocre as hell

Heeeeeyyyyy, more random hate for Armanti. We certainly don't get enough of that around here.

yep. A common trait among Gettis fanboys - Armanti hate. I think they rooted so hard for Gettis becaus it pushed him further down the depth chart, or potentially off the roster entirely.

Well, plenty of people including this Skins fan thinks that our inability to protect Cam and give him some weapons are hilarious also, and then we take one of them away in lieu of some guys that many Panthers fans have never even heard of.

OK. We'll see how it goes, but don't fail to recognize the humor in the situation when our passing game suffers at the first sign of injury,  just plain mediocrity, and/or lack of execution.

but gettis has been that first sign of injury, which may have been the deciding factor.

if they were planning on just rolling with 5 WRs (which even at that is the best looking group of WRs we've had in a long time), him getting injured again was probably the straw that broke the camel's back....kind of a "oh no, here we go again".

gettis making or not making the roster wasn't a make or break deal for the offense. it's not a big deal because he probably would have missed several weeks from this latest hammy tweak.

You are giving Gettis way too much credit.

3 passes in 2010 created a legend that kept growing despite him never doing anything beyond it.

I guess a receiver that has just been cut and had 7.5 times the amount of catches in his career than another one that made the team and has literally done nothing gets some people rilled up.

And what the hell has AE done that makes you defend him so much?

Impress a man with 25 years of player personnel and scouting experience enough to make a roster with only 4 other WR's on it, despite not playing in the last three preseason games?

    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
