Last night gave me hope for our offensive line and WR corps

Details, since the topic title pretty much sums it up.

 

Nate Chandler:  I saw him get bent over (off balance) once and the QB would have been hammered, but it was a three step drop with a quick release, so the technique is not as critical--in fact, the blocker wants to drop step and attack with the next move to get the DL hands down, so I understand the reason balance may be an issue for a neophyte.  The rest of the time I saw very solid feet.  Not much in the run game-he has decent technique but loses power at the point of contact, something experience willl fix.  There is reason to feel good about Chandler, IMO (now watch him get cut).

 

Byron Bell:  I am not sure what he was doing at LT (I hope they are not grooming him for the post-Gross era) but he seems to be getting better with his footwork.  Speed rushers will always give him problems.

 

Scott and Hicks:  When I watched them, both were good. Big boys to play RG. Expect one, probably Scott, to make the team.  I would not be surprised to see Hicks hit the PS.

 

We showed sgns of depth. 

 

At WR, the best thing that happened was Seattle got some film of Ginn and us beating them deep.  Now step up, Sherman.    However, Ginn is going to drop some balls.  He is no worse, however, than Murphy last season. 

 

Hixon showed about what he is capable of doing, but I was impressed that he did not seem rusty.

 

Lafell looked like a veteran on that sideline route.  Oh yeah, he is one.

I like that someone got tape on ginn catching deep passes and touchdowns. he will get more rolled coverage from deep safeties from the get-go, which of course will open things up underneath. dude is going to be fearsome

 

Yup, that's the idea... Ginn stretching the field with Smitty in the slot and Olsen underneath = long day for the opposing defense.

I expect there to be a few words exchanged between the two.  I think, however, that Smitty in his prime would abuse a big CB.  We will see.

Great, there is more than one WR on the roster who can catch and be a deep threat. While we were all watching the passing game move the offense up and down the field, Mike Morgan and Mike Rucker spent the entire broadcast talking at length about the power running game the Panthers want to run this season. 

 

The passing game was very good during the preseason, the running game was somewhere south of really bad, but the power running game will be the offensive feature of the 2013 Panthers. Sorry, I did not see this O-line move anyone off the ball in any of the 4 preseason games and without Tolbert on the field, I don't see a RB on the roster who is going to simply put his head down and run over anyone.

He isn't though. Round 1 already went to Sherman. I think the key will be finding Olsen and another WR to make plays for us week 1. Just let Smith keep Sherman away from the action

Sherman will be on Smitty, but Smitty will get his. He always does. I put the over/under on Smitty/Sherman skirmishes at 3. It might be wise to take the over.

Didn't last time he saw Sherman.

And if there are skirmishes again, Sherman wins again

    Sherman...does...not want...any...of steve...in a fight....ie Ken Lucas...Hell Smitty slung Hardy in training camp. Sherman may very well keep Cam from getting the ball to Steve but I'll take Smitty over anyone not named Suh in a fight ha.

    Panthers should move Smith around ALOT to see if they can move him away from Sherman. I take a 3 WR set of Smith, Lafell, and Ginn over a 2nd TE(Hartsock and Williams or Ginn? I take speed!). Either Seattle bites on the Ginn threat and Olsen, Lafell and our backs are freed up or they don't and Ginn takes one over the top. 

 

I hope our game plan is not just a power O at Seattle.  I hope we come out like we did vs Arizona and Green Bay 2 years ago and just let Cam rip it with no huddle and spread them out. JMO but if we let Cam be Cam and light them up the first series or 2 then I think we can run it once we loosen them up. I wish we had Houston or Washingtons oline to block for our RB's but we don't, and I think playing like we do would  be foolish
