5. I think [Chargers head coach] Mike McCoy is a hidden gem. It was very evident in the one year that I didn’t have him as my QB coach in Carolina—2009—I sucked. There’s no other way to put it. He played the position, he understands it, and he’s going to bring a family atmosphere to the team, and believe me, that does wonders.

Thought that was interesting.  Doesn't explain why he sucked in the playoffs against the Cardinals though!

People always lament that game as they should.

But did u know that going into that game the Jake had the best QB rating for playoff games in NFL history?

Jake was more good than bad in the playoffs

Ya know what I lament about that game as much as Jake's issues?

Friggin' John Fox stubbornly sticking with his 'left and right corner' philosophy when he should have put Chris Gamble in Larry Fitzgerald's hip pocket for the entire night.

That still ticks me off

Tommy Jone.

This

Jake was essentially done after the Tommy John surgery. Even in 2008 I thought he had quite a few bad games that were masked because we were winning with a monster running game. Love Jake, but I'm not sure McCoy had much to do with his regression

I hear that.  After the game, wasn't Larry Fitzgerald saying he was wondering why they didn't put Chris Gamble on him?  He gave major props to Gamble as being one of the best corners in the game.  And he was back in his prime.

They defense let the team down almost as much as the offense (predominantly Jake).  Aside from the coaching i.e. not putting Gamble on Fitzgerald, #90 sure didn't show up in that game either.

And then tried to be cute with his half-a$$ "see-ya" wave to the crowd afterwards.  Being at BOA that night was one of the most disappointing experiences in my life.

Still love Jake though.  Heart of a champion- his arm just wasn't the same after the Tommy John.  And as others pointed out, our dominant running game and Smitty making some amazing catches masked a lot of how bad his accuracy was.

going into the Seattle game in 2005, his playoff stats were the best of all time by an off the chart margin.

5-1 w-l record

98-157 passing, 1446 yards

10 TDs 2 Interceptions

e: and that's with only one home game

according to the info they showed during last nights game though 2008 was the year we set the franchise record for least turnovers....... in the regular season

that was mostly because dwill didn't fumble at all that year. and we'd finally moved on from the fumble machine (foster) as our feature back

Pretty interesting.  I think the Tommy John combined with the snowballing terrible performance in the playoffs the year before shattered his confidence.  No one on the staff really knew how to address it, they just hoped throwing money at him would fix everything.
