O-Line Performance? Nate Chandler? Couldn't see game.

Oh man I would be so happy if Wharton and Chandler could legitimately supplant Garry and Bell.

I'm iffy on Garry but Bell just makes me so damn uncomfortable.  Yea he plays good enough to be a starting tackle in this league, but that doesn't mean he's a good starting tackle.

i couldn't tell who all was starting on the offensive line, but it didn't look like gross or kalil were in. wharton was presumably running with the twos just so he could get in some reps in the field... he looked good.

Saw tweets saying the starting line was

Bell-Wharton-Byers-Scott-Williams

I'm wondering if they would try this for week one

Gross-Wharton-Kalil-Scott-Williams

If you watch the Ted Ginn 87 yard TD Chandler does and excellent job of blocking his man. If we cut him, i will riot.

Yep, Garry Williams actually got beat at right tackle but Anderson got the throw off before the defender could get to him. Chandler locked his guy up tight.

Chandler has great hands,. Fast and athletic, he just needs to work on his strength for run blocking.

Maybe G Williams will get better with time but I think BBell is pretty much what you see is what you will get. He cannot block fast edge rushers and that is a huge liability. I am not putting to much weight in our ability to ground and pound either. As they say in the USMC adapt and overcome.

I noticed him once.

Jimmy fumbled and chandler hustled to the ball and knocked it out of bounds as a defender was jumping on it. I know this doesn't sound like much but little things like that add up

I liked that play too and was the primary time I noticed him.  To me, it looked like he knocked the crap out of the defender and the ball and prevented a turnover.  In other words, he looked like a defensive player in that sequence.

I've only watched the game through once, but there are a couple of things I can mention.

Regarding Chandler, from what I saw of him he actually looked decent.  He manned the LT spot most of the night (Bell started). I know he put a Steeler pass rusher on his ass at least once.

Starting line for last night from left to right - Byron Bell, Travelle Wharton, Brian Folkerts, Chris Scott and Garry Williams

The later line was Nate Chandler, Tori Mobley, Folkerts (pretty sure he played the entire night) Hayworth Hicks and Patrick Brown

Chris Scott put Ziggy Hood down on an early play.

The fact that they didn't bother to play Jeff Byers makes me think he's pretty much in.

The fact that they started Bell at LT tells me they have more positive feelings about him than I do   Hope they're right.

And while I'm generally positive about the first group, I'm tempering any enthusiasm because 1) it was mostly against other backups and 2) Anderson was getting the ball out super fast most of his time in, so they weren't having to protect him for very long.

So, it sounds like they think Bell is the second best LT on the team?
