It's hard to gauge a running backs effectiveness when:

a: he gets 10 carries or less a game

b: he plays behind a mediocre o-line

c: his oc if fugging retarded

d: his hc doesn't recognize a-c and benches him

Oh haha so it's everybody else's fault the entire time

You do realize there's already 16.5M dead money (as of right now, more can be added after the 53) for 2014 right? So you're telling me, with ~25M cap space for next year (at best) you're going to wipe that all away to throw us ~15M over the cap again next year without: resigning any FA's, paying your 2014 draft picks, accounting for a Kraken extension, and only having about 40 of your 53 on contract for 2014.

It's not opinionated, it's just math

You can create cap room....while adding dead money. Carolina would be looking at the trade off....create cap space.

So you think they will keep a RB that is either to hurt or just ineffective.....b/c it creates dead money? Why wouldn't they prefer to use the created cap space to add talent to actually help instead?

Jury still up.

I like Lacy's potential a lot but hasn't shown much in preseason. I'm just saying as of right now, doesn't have a reliable back.

I believe the phrase you're looking for is "the jury is still out," for 200, Alex.

stop...  just..don't..I mean.....stop.

I just love how a guy who has yet to play a single NFL game has already been anointed DeAngelo/JStew's replacement. Maybe we should wait to see him actually play in a couple of games before making a decision.

And DeAngelo is useless! Do you overreact much? Seems he did ok at the end of last season and was ranked 8th best out of 52 two seasons ago by Football Outsiders.

A ranking from two seasons ago means a little more than nothing on a RB that is 30. I love Dwill but I want to see the Panthers move on.

They are stuck with stew til at min 2015, no he won't be cut next year. DWill will burn off 4M of guaranteed if kept next year and his cap hit isn't huge and his productivity will be fine this year.

The topic is us getting rid of both rbs next year and I'm stating that isn't happening and it is far more likely they both stick next year. I can't tell you it's fact, but I can say the numbers weigh in the favor of both staying.

One goes. That is part of DG "fixing the mess". Fixing the mess isn't just Hurney magicing all Hurney's magic.

Next year is the ideal time to go to work on this O

I was one of the people who really thought we had to get double trouble locked down because they were an important part of the team. Now it's sad to say but they just aren't worth it anymore. Sure D-Will will have a good game now and then but for the most part he never even gets past the line of scrimmage and J-Stew is injured most of the time. I'm completely fine with moving ahead with Barner and Tolbert or Barner and some other veteran.

I actually think Gettleman has been trying to find a way to keep both Williams and Stewart, and I think the reason is because it's what Rivera wants.

Depending on how this season plays out, Gettleman may or may not agree that keeping them is the best way to go.

(he may also feel differently about keeping Rivera)

Williams has was demoted in 2011 (snaps) and 2012 (flat out demoted to #2).....yet you think Rivera is just begging DG to find a way to keep him?

Also the first Rivera move was bringing in Tolbert. To steal carries form guys that already couldn't get enough

I am curious, what makes you think RR wants John Fox's RBs? He isn't even using them and doesn't even prefer Williams if he has options healthy

    • 100% even if rest of team is really talented if they march young out to be qb and he plays like he has for 90% of his starts the panthers have already lost doesnt even matter how good the rest of the team is or isnt and also makes it hard to even tell how good they are.  They need true competition for young this offseason.
    • It will be awesome to have an improved stadium to lose in I guess....   https://www.yahoo.com/news/panthers-file-rezoning-bank-america-111500840.html     The Carolina Panthers have taken another necessary step toward renovating their home of the present and future. Panthers Stadium, LLC, filed its rezoning site plan with the city of Charlotte on Monday, initiating an important — if mostly technical — step toward renovating Bank of America Stadium. The filings state that the rezoning relates “primarily to technical aspects associated with improvements to Bank of America Stadium,” and that the rezoning is required because “the current stadium zoning is out of date” for the team’s stadium renovation plans.   The planned stadium updates include new seats installed throughout the upper and lower bowls; stadium safety and security enhancements; a reimagined South Lawn Pavilion; upgraded restrooms; exterior enhancements (including LED video boards) and more. Planning for the stadium renovation project will continue through 2025, with construction starting in 2026 and the renovation’s conclusion in 2029, The Observer previously reported.
    • In my dream, we somehow luck into a top 2 pick and someone wants a QB bad and doesn’t want anyone else to jump them. Somehow we’ll probably screw up the picks anyway, but it would be nice to do even partially what Chicago did to us. We’d have to lose out, which is a decent possibility unless Tampa is resting. We need Atlanta to stay within a game because Atlanta beat Tampa twice. The rest of the draft slots are who knows because Jax plays the Raiders and then Tennessee and you never know who will rest starters. I think we are top 7 unless we somehow pull out 2 more wins. The 4 win teams have higher SOS and there is only one 5 win team with the same SOS. If we win 1 of 3, we still should stay in top 7. If we lose out and the Jax games work for us, we can easily be top 3.
