He can be designated to return when placed on IR and so he counts towards the 53 man roster and someone has to be cut for him to return.

 

Not saying its going to happen but it would be a way to stash a player and give him time so that you didnt have to pray he would clear waivers and make it to the practice squad.

Considering we have to be at 75 today and we got to that by putting Kug on IR, I'm assuming that we can't re-designate him now.  But I could easily be wrong on that.  Anyway, looking at the comments that official Panther outlets are posting, it doesn't sound like that is happening:

I don't think he's eligible. He wasn't part of the 53 man roster cut, he was part of the 75.

I'm sure the front office as well as fans are slightly disappointed, but if you thought a fourth round division 2 project was going to start and dominate week 1 I don't know what to tell you.

He will work with trainers all season and get into the condition they want him in for next year.

Has nothing to do with starting. It was a dumb pick with the talent left on the board. He would have been sitting there after the draft. A project is a luxury and we had 5 total picks, we needed to find contributors. Bahktiari would have been nice but he's starting for GB now.

You didn't really need precognition to realize that the D14 Guard you just over-drafted by 3 rounds was probably a waste of a pick.

Gettleman post draft stated that Kug was Picked with expectations to contribute immediately.

Most of us who researched the guy on the internets saw scouts projecting him 7th round or UDFA project.

With Q Patton, Kenny Stills and all the safties left the 4th round could have been a guy fighting for a starting role.

Game, set, match.
