Fair.  Fair is about $8 million per season for 5 seasons. Wait until February, and it goes up  $2-4m.

Why would he wait till mid season? Thinking from his perspective it's either before the season or after.

I'd wait... we got other promising DEs and now promising DTs. Make Hardy show more and then see what else got....

i could be wrong, but hardy doesn't strike me as the type of guy to get a contract, plop his ass down on it and get fat.

He has a bit of crazy in him....those guys always scare me when you want them to be part of your core. Well, he might have more than a bit

What I am saying is,  his agent isn't going to negotiate during the year.  If he is playing well then his Free agent number goes up, if he is not playing well then he will wait till the end of the season to see if he can pick it up.  You can't reasonably think Frank Alexander is as good all around as Hardy right now? Because that's the only other "promising DE".

If we can negotiate now before the year starts, and secure a decent number then it's best to do it now.  For long term cap reasons it makes sense to do it now.  Hardy will be more likely to negotiate because he is only contracted for 1.75 mill this year.  If he gets a big injury then it's lost money.  It makes sense for both sides to deal in the final year.  That way we can use some of the extra cap space to now, especially when we have to figure out how to work all that dead money on the backside of Williams, Beason contract.

If our DTs turn out to be beasts....does someone like Alexander need to be as good all around if he himself continue to grow as a pass rusher?

Depends on what you think his strengths are.  I think he is a decent  pass rusher right now, but from just watching a very limited sample, I don't think he is that good against the run.  Thus why I think Hardy is a better fit.  Add to the fact that he has flexibility to go inside on obvious passing downs, it makes him much better all around in my opinion.  If we have no inkling on keeping him long term, then by all means let him play out the year.  But if we are going to continue to have probably one of the best front 7's in the league, then we should lock him up for a bit longer.   Also he is only 25 years old,  1 year older than ...yes Frank Alexander.

Terrible mistake. Especially if we sign him now. This will be signing double trouble all over again. Mark my words, next season we will all be on here saying what a big mistake this will be. When we re signed Stewart, I was the only one saying it was a terrible move while all the other Panther fans where busy popping the champaign corks and I got ridiculed.

Frank Alexander is coming into his own, we have Dwan Edwards, Star, Short and CJ. We plain ole dont need Hardy bad enough to pay him mega bucks. I would rather trade him now while has value. Bet we could easily get a 1st and 2nd rounder for him, maybe more.
