Preseason Panic In Pantherland.

Offense was consistantly bad in the 2011 and 2012 preseasons.....

Those are also the two greatest offensive production seasons in franchise history. All comes down to the OL. If they can be some what not crappy....we will be okay

Well that is my point our offense looks bad in the preseason and continues to look bad in the regular season until week 8 when the light finally comes on

...and here we have a classic example of knee-jerking contrarian logic-bashing journalism most frequently seen on the huddle by your average toothless short-order cook, only in this case it's the Charlotte Observer's resident toothless short-order cook.

1. Hyperbole up your strawman (USE CAPS for style points. See what I did there? Sounds like I was yelling for a sec)

2. Bring up anecdotes (in this case, all you need is one example of a team that did great in preseason and ended up shitting the bed during the fall. Who needs comprehensive stats analysis since it doesn't support where we're going for here anyway? Just remember that time some team somewhere looked good in August and ended up not looking good later on when it mattered and in conclusion our offensive line is automatically not going to look like garbage even though there are injuries in the interior and team execs are patch working it.

3.????

4. Profit.

Don't forget to smugly act like you know what you're talking about

Post of the week.

Well done fine sir

It was a different kind of bad. This year we have a bad OC that either wants to practice a scheme that will not work with our skill set or will come out with something entirely different in the regular season that we have not worked on in preseason both of which are stupid if you ask me.

Chud was a good OC?

Did Chud not also practice this same scheme in his preseasons? That often lead to poor results in the preseason? Did he not come out with something different come regular season

He did and our offense struggled until he made adjustments in the latter part of the season. To me it would have made since to see what are are going to run in the 3rd preseason game so we can measure the talent with the scheme.

What I am suggesting is just my opinion without facts to support it .I am just trying to understand the logic.Teams know we will have some read option and pistol formations and will prepare for that coupled with Cam seems more prone to injury when he is in the traditional drop back passing formation so with that said why not spread it out a bit and refine it before our first game

We were vanilla last year on defense and offense in the preseason and absolutely looked totally unprepared in our first game the last two years.

what's funny to me is people saying that we always look bad in preseason, that cam and the offense has looked bad in preseasons before as if that meant it's not a big deal but how have we fared those years? fast starts? winning seasons? nope...poor performance  in preseason has been follwed up by poor performance in regular season? are the two related? maybe not, but you're gonna have a hard time proving that they aren't.

the defense looks good this year. so far the offense has looked much like i thought a shula run/managed offense would look with really poor blocking.  in fact it's looked worse, but it's preseason so i expect it to look not quite up to par but even with that i have seen nothing positive in the play or management of the offense. and you can say all you want that they are just holding back but if they are, why aren't they with the defense?

this offense should be better, but it's not. it has the talent at QB, RB, and i think it actually has enough at receiver to not be bad, but the OL play and the play calling and pre game preparation has done nothing to take away the feeling that this will be another underperforming, slow starting team managed poorly. that's not panic, btw. my heart rate isn't going up. it's just this realization that this team may be heading in the same direction it has for several years. full of promises about good things and tons of potential that winds up turning into losses and excuses.

I'm impressed with the offense and special teams. I'm not impressed with the offense and if this offense can't sustain drives and get into the end zone, we aren't going to have a winning season.

Well said and could possibly explain why we start so slow.

But question remains....was it really adjustments or had he simply gotten past the teams with good defensive fronts blowing up our offense.

Scheme hasn't really changed nor has the talent on offense....I just think too much is being made of why Shula isn't showing X in the preseason when we haven't the last two years

This.

We have a run first offense now with an OC that has a history of failing to adapt and little to no creativity.

That's fine if you have a top 10 O line, we have the opposite.  Cam is going to have a hard time converting 3 and 8s this whole season. Any quarterback would.  Sadly, he will shoulder the blame for almost all of the offensive struggling we are about to witness. I hope I'm wrong though.

It's just frustrating because I think he we are a good O line away from being a wild card team.

We got off to a fast start offensively in 2011....

2012 was the OL decline...which causes the slow start. I think it is simply a matter of our offense will be slow any time paired up against a good D front. Unfortunately we see one week 1.

So in 2013 I expect us to remain the big play O any time we face a weak front and the inconstant nightmare O when we face a good front
