Panthers could be "Trap" Team this Season

After hearing Seahawk fan aren't even paying us attention on Week 1, and looking at their Week 2 game against the 49ers. My first thought was this could work to our advantage (If the team is doing the same).

After looking through the schedule, I noticed we have the potential to be in a lot of "trap games" this season. These types of games have got us a few times over the years, just look at the KC game last season.

So here's the run-down of who our opponents have the week AFTER the Panthers:

Seahawks: 49ers- Huge divisional game as home opener.

Bills: Jets- Another division game. I'm not too worried about the Bills but if they are looking at week 3, we may slaughter them.

Giants: Chiefs- This one isn't a big game at all. But maybe they will be looking past both teams for their Week 5 game against the Eagles.

Cardinals: 49ers- Huge division game. They will probably be more worried about the 49ers than us this early.

Vikings: Giants- This is a big game on MNF. Depending on both teams records, this could push someone to the top of their division.

Rams: Seahawks- YET ANOTHER NFCW divisional game. That division might be a race for the top at this point, Rams might be looking to stop the Seahawks climb. Also a MNF game.

49ers: Saints- This will probably be billed early as a preview for the NFC Championship Game.

Patriots: Broncos- The hate between Brady/Manning might be flowing early. Could we take advantage of Tom's unfocused play? Sunday Night Game.

Dolphins: Jets- Divisional game. Doubt either will be in the running for the playoffs but they may still put up a fight against each other to put them in the basement.

The rest are NFCS games (and the Jets, who might be playing for #1 Pick by that time) so they will be focused on us. BUT, if the past is any indication, we could turn it on late again and run the table on our division.

I don't want the panthers to be known as a"trap"team. That means we are sucking hind teet again and every team expects to beat us cause we are crap.I want a team that other teams don't want to play because we are stoud and winning.

They could be good.

Or they could be really bad.

My guess is they are mediocre and we have a new coach next year.

All starts up front....and our GM isn't doing much to help us compete against teams that field a real defensive front.

Bye Rivera. Only hope Rivera has is if Cam really does rip his shirt open and becomes Superman in year 3.

Cam's back has to be sore though after 2 years of trying to carry this offense though...

"Trap Game" is just a term invented by ESPN to convince people to watch crappy MNF match-ups.  It goes like this:

Jaws: "Tonight the soaring Patriots host the down-and-out Bills.  Patriots have won all their games by 30 pts. or more while the lowly Bills are 1-7.  However, don't count Buffalo out.  THis could be a TRAP GAME for New England."

Translation:  We thought Buffalo was going to be good based on last year's record and now they suck...but they could win.  Its not impossible.  Don't watch CSI!

Trap games are not real.  I sure as hell don't expect Seattle to overlook us just because they play SF at home the following week.  They will have weeks to prepare and no team wants to lose that first game.

There you go again. Offense has not been the trouble the past 2 years so there was no reason to blow up the offensive line. On the other hand the defense particularly in the middle was a huge problem which Gettleman has tried  to fix and rightly so.  Cam has been good statistically but he is a far cry from a clutch player late.  In fact he is not nearly as good as Jake was when you needed a score. He didn't blow any games but he didn't exactly carry everyone on his back either. Atlanta part 1 and Seattle were in our grasp if he only makes routine plays.  Was it his fault?  Of course not, it was the team's fault of which he is a part.

Rivera's hope is that Cam will finally develop into the player that he is capable of being and that this defense will be as good as we all hope.

    • Look I'm glad he's improving but yeah it's incredibly obvious just how low the bar was set by his play last year and before the benching this year because even in these 2 wins he flat out has not even been an average QB and the team won in spite of him against bad teams. I think what Bryce defenders (can't believe there are any at this point) don't understand is nearly every single Panthers fan would love for the dude to turn it around and be a franchise QB who can lead this team to a SB win. The reality for everyone with eyes and brain watching though is he's not the guy, is nowhere even remotely close to being the guy and wasting any more time on trying to make him the guy will set this team back even further. With Dalton hurt of course we had to go back to Bryce but I'm pretty damn confident in saying he's not in our future plans and won't be barring a miracle true turn around in his level of play. Even like 5-6 more wins the rest of the season wouldn't do it unless he balls out in them -- which, color me skeptical.
    • robbed.  Refs seemed to be on a mission during the course of all 3 games.
    • I may be in minority but he looks better now in the pocket than any time last year.  I think the yards are coming especially when Thielen comes back.
