Well, I am a big believer that the Big Cat has created some very bad scenarios with his GM/HC pairings.

Hurney should of been fired when Fox left. He wasn't.

Hurney drafted a draft for no one in 2010 with a lame duck coach and no clue who was coming in.

Fox got fired. Hurney then signed Fox's roster to mega deals. New coach hired and stuck with a Fox squad.

Now a new GM, doesn't get a say in his HC only knows he is likely gone next year....so why dig a hole and waste money on something you are about to scrap. Just plan for 2014 and if RR is still here then give him help or move in your new direction. DG is making wise moves with 2014 in mind.....situation he walked into doesn't justify the state of his OL. He just isn't going to waste resources on Rivera's O. Will give him enough to compete.

That isn't DG bashing. That probably is the right call if you find yourself in his position. Big Cat as always, deserves more criticism. JR is a great businessman.....but I am a fan of what the sport team does on a football field.

This whole conspiracy theory that Gettleman  is holding back is just stupid.  Gettleman knows that he is tied to Rivera and he is only as good as the team performs. He has no idea who will available as far as head coaches go and wouldn't  be planning for next year when this year has not even begun.  He is simply doing  his job which is try and build the team the best way  he knows how.  He is doing a good job so far.  Not fixing the o-line is not about giving up, settling or planning for next year.  It is about doing everything he can and not being able to do it all in one year.  He is doing everything with 2013 in mind not 2014. He was able to fix the defense because Star was available after a number of top offensive guards were already gone.  Short was too good to not draft. The next pick was an offensive guard.  As for free agency we didn't have a chance to pickup any good players being so over the cap. He has done the best he could at this point.  He is all in.

I don't exactly understand the negative attitude towards RR. He is an excellant defensive coach and

has built us a top notch D.If we have a glaring weakness in the coaching staff it is our OC. His history sucks. Replace him and leave our head coach and his strong D in play. We are going to have a very competative team this year if the OC is replaced by Phroel (sp)? Just kidding but serious just the same.

I know you are a smart guy 55 but I know you also like to counter most of what I say....so you honestly don't think the fact RR was almost fired after last season impacts anything the new GM does or is willing to do? I would find it hard to believe RR said we would not sign any other OL especially with the current roster we have now.  I'm sure his words were misconstrued someway or another.

It is a conspiracy theory and you don't have a shred of proof. That is what you do.  if you say it over and over again you hope people  will accept it as the truth when it is only your skewed version of the truth.  No one is saying he is sabotaging or that you are saying that either.

 

As for countering most of what you say, if you stop saying things like this, I would agree with you more often.   Do I think because Rivera was almost fired that it limits what Gettleman will do to support him.  Of course I don't think that, that is plain ridiculous.  Anyone who ponders human nature for half a second would know what Gettleman thinks  and is attempting to do. Gettleman gets to be the guy who comes in and is the hero.  He fixes things financially, he saves the coach and the team and turns things around.  He wants to be the guy who makes things right and saves the day. He has nothing to lose.  If Rivera fails he still is around and gets his guy. If he makes us a winner, he is the hero and  Rivera and everyone else are grateful. So he is going to do everything he can to ensure we are successful and he is surely all in. From everything I have heard from Gettleman that is who he is.  A grinder who works tirelessly to help the organization any way he can. He has not been a GM before so he doesn't know any way else to be.

 

Think about it. This is his chance to be the boss and do it his way.  Who waits for 25 years to be the boss and then tries halfheartedly to do his job.  No one.  It is obvious that you have never been the boss of a bunch of people who are counting on you for their livelihood or you would understand that he is going to do everything to make the team as good as he can and then some.

At this point, I do not care what Rivera says.  I only care what this team does.

There are serviceable guys being cut. I think Rivera is purely saying this for Bell's confidence.

I told everyone 2 weeks ago that we were going to add 1 maybe 2 guys who would add depth and could perhaps start in the event of injury. We were not going to make wholesale changes and they were pretty happy with who they had and that is who we were going to roll with.  Obviously Amini getting hurt and Kugbilla being a no show was the major impetus to sign Wharton. And now everyone is shocked to hear we are mostly done.  

 

I had  2 people bet me I was wrong and many others say I was crazy.  Instead as usual I was right again. If Wharton is equal to Amini, and Williams is equal to Hangartner, then this is the line that was very effective in the second half of the year.  With the addition of Kalil it should be even better.  Sure they haven't looked good so far but they didn't last year or the year before.

We were a losing team those years due largely to the o-line sucking. We're supposed to sit back and relax as the team does the same thing, but expects different results?
