In my infinite stupidity I would place Wharton at RT and move Bell into RG while Kubby heals up.  Leaving Bell on the outside scares me and book-ending him with Kalil and Wharton seems the lesser of 2 evils.

If Kugbila returns do you want him replacing Bell or Wharton in week 3?

you rotate kug in while he learns to take the skates off his feet.

i don't like starting rookies on the OL, regardless of what division they played in college or where they were drafted. bring them along slowly. throwing them in the fire might be good for their development, but it could effect the team in a really bad way.

bring kug along slowly this year. use him situationally when he's healthy again (rushing downs) and then go from there.

that's what i'd do, anyway.

Um you guys do realize Amini is only slightly better than Williams right?  So basically he sucks right now.

All this :

Amini is coming into his own

Amini is starting to get it.

We need another guard to replace him.

Call me crazy but I kinda like the idea of putting gross and wharton back together.  The left side of the line would actually be average to above average while the right side would stay the same.  With one side of the line solid and the other a little shaky we could keep a RB back to block or have a tightend help out.  Wharton could definitely help at right guard but bell is still gonna get beat regardless.

It would also make me feel good about running behind that stronger left side that could actually get some push.

But I don't think I'd be upset either way.  Not to mention with Amini's injury he may miss week one anyway.

I think you put Wharton where he gives Cam the most protection. if that is LG then you put him at LG where he's already familiar with Kalil and Gross. You can't put Amini's development as priority over Cam's protection if it means he can't step up and he's still getting hit all the time. The function of the offense as a whole is more important Amini's growing pains.

Depends how injured Amini is....

Maybe Wharton goes home to LG while Amini heals and they see what Kug looks like at RG if be can get back and evaluate from there....

Maybe hope you can pick up one more vet that has spend his career on the right

I bet they plug him back in at LG where he has always played. With Gross-Wharton-Kalil-Silatolu-Bell it will be like putting on an old pair of slippers. He has good chemistry with the left side. He will be protecting Cam's backside, and hopefully giving him more time to set his feet and make solid throws. Scheme an extra blocker with a TE or RB to help Silatolu and Bell. Armini can move over. I would rather have one weak spot in my offensive line than two.

agreed, but he's needed more on the right. silatolu may not be a stud, but he's better than the guys on the right side. we need more experience and talent on the right. cam needs more help from that side as does the run game.

Not to argue for the sake of arguing but the entire right side caves almost immediately on every snap.  I won't complain if there is any improvement but for the life of me I cannot see us not trying to shore up the right side before the left.  JMO.

Interesting note in today's Observor article about Wharton:

The 6-foot-4, 315-pound Wharton likely will play left guard, where he played almost exclusively during his Carolina tenure, next to left tackle Jordan Gross, his friend and neighbor. That would move second-year guard Amini Silatolu to the right side and could bump Garry Williams to a reserve role.

Wonder if this is based on something from team sources or just pulled out of their ass...

I can't argue this point except if you put an extra blocker over there it would help alot. I think Gettleman still needs to bring in another O line player for the right side. I'm not sure if a RT will be cut that is better than Bell, but if so I would sign them. Silatolu isn't too bad to have come from a division II school and to be in his second year.

I prefer Silatolu between Gross and Kalil.  That's where he gets the most help.  That, plus I don't wanna see him having to learn a new position.

I'm one who still thinks Bell could be turned into a good guard, but Wharton right now is probably a better guard.

Right Guard would be my choice as the spot for him.
