And just like that, Kugbila isn't practicing today

I kinda think this is the exact reason for the "fuss". This offensive line doesn't need a long term projects, it needs guys that can play right now. Teams can get starting quality offensive linemen in the 4th round. Gettlemen didn't. Will he be good down the road, maybe, will he even play this year, probably not.

This.

This oline is terrible and "in need" of capable players right now, not waiting for one to develop and play 2-3 years down the road.

Amini was a raw player from a small school, but I believed that he was more ready than Kugbila now. Even in Amini's 2nd year now, he's still have some ways to go. I just think that the development process of Kugbila is gonna be a long time from now.

He was going to be a long term project regardless of his status this preseason. I don't quite understand all the fuss.

When we only had 5 picks, a project with our third pick was not very smart IMO. Project/ luxury picks like an Armanti or Kugbila are smart when you have 10+ picks like the 9ers and Packers did.

Can someone tell me why we always end up drafting one of these "project" player over prospects who are considered NFL ready?

If they are a 4rth rounder there is a reason. Not all 4ths pan out so its a pic your poison. Most teams do this. You either tack a chance on an injured guy from a big school, or a guy with no real game experience, or a guy with off field issues, or a guy from a school no one has heard of. Everyone does it, you just dont follow other teams to remember who they drafted in the 4th that panned out. Im not talking about the exeption to the rule, like a brady being picked late, But normal guys in the later round are a guessing game.

Or we could have taken a proven, versatile, smart player like Barret Jones from Alabama who was picked 4 spots after we took Kugbila's low pain tolerance ass.

Barrett is also one tough SOB, he played half the season with a liscfranc injury.

So you mean a 4th rounder and lower are pretty much wasted/unworthy picks?

I wanted to pick him also, but its not our crapshoot player to pick. also why did he drop so far if he was a sure thing? and we dont know how he will pan out yet. Im not saying he might not be better, just 4th round is were you have to choose between several guys that have some flaw. what you and i see as an insignificant the front office might not. also its pretty much impossible to guess who is about to be drafted in the latter round so you will never be happy with who we pick. Its unlikely you will see the same things the same way.

I do not believe that this was a very wise pick and i wonder who actually pushed for this. You take a project when you have the luxury of having a good line already, really don't see how they thought this was going to work out for us this season.

Jones isn't a sure thing. That's for sure. He dropped for a reason. The Rams are currently testing him out and he's been struggling all over the line... but Panther fans refuse to acknowledge that bit of info.

this.

on top of his injury...jones is a jack of all trades, but a master of none.

he's not expected to win a starting position anywhere on the rams o-line. he was drafted for depth.

Panthers fans all jumping down Kugbila, the training staff is the one that finds these "setbacks", mind you.  I'm pretty sure, it's not him saying "Guys, I feel bad today, I don't think I want to practice"
