That's how Austin Johnson, the son of Hickory Mike Johnson's Toyota got a SB ring with the Ravens. He was a former LB/FB at Hickory High. Went on to play at Tennessee and was UDFA for the Ravens. He was injured and credited with a SB ring for being on IR. Hes now currently a FB for the Aints. Or at least for now.

He's not a project. He's a player who did nothing in Oakland.

If this was the front offices thinking,  "cut him in the first round of cuts so teams don't think he very good".  It is actually kind of smart.

I was going to post a thread about Campbell a couple days back because I saw on FoxSports1 that he was out for the season with a torn rotator cuff. I hadn't seen it posted anywhere here but, I assumed it had been discussed somewhere and I missed it. I thought they'd IR him as he was actually pushing for PT in camp.

If that's the case, the front office would have just not played him at all in the preseason so teams wouldn't have got a chance to look at him.

See Jared Green last year and possibly Robert Lester this year. Robert have gotten very little PT.
