I am not worried about our offense, and you can too!

It looked as if the Oline was just getting handled last night by the Raven's Dline. Just like they were beaten by the Iggles blitzing. I've got to look at the replay, but it seemed as if they haven't gel'd at all. Missed assignments, losing 1-1 battles.

Edit: the missed conversion the 2nd and 1, then 3rd and 1 killed me. No push at all from the line.

I'm willing to give them a few reg season games before I start to be really concerned about it.

With Cam having the full playbook available to him and them game planning for specific opponents, I think they can work around some of the O line issues.

Plus I'm really hoping Gettlemagic picks up some decent O linemen from the upcoming cuts...

iow we'll just have to see how they look.

I wish I could be as positive as you.

But what I fear is an OC who not only hasn't modernized his philosophy over the last 14 years, but thinks that his past philosophy is now a fine vintage, ready to decant on the league.

What I fear is a GM so in love with a single view of the QB position and how it should be played that he'll ignore the singular gifts of THIS talented QB cuz, gosh darn it, he wants him an Eli.

I don't buy whole-cloth your "what you see AIN'T gonna be what you get" viewpoint. Yeah, some plays of a special nature you may want to keep under wraps to spring on an opponent during the regular season. But screen passes? Read-options? These are srandard plays in the playbook. Other teams have plenty of film on these plays over the past two years. Whats the point of keeping these plays under wraps? Are they knew and improved SOOPER SECRET screens and read-options that are just gonna blow the league away? Why wouldn't you want to use them in the preseason games to practice them under full-speed, full-contact conditions?

No, I submit to you the more likely reason is that what we've seen is what we're going to get with Shula. There's no SOOPER SECRET game plan coming down the pike thats just gonna blow us all away when the regular season arrives.

Mike Shula is just being Mike Shula... AGAIN.

And Cam Newton will yet again have to carry the burden of performing fugging miracles for this offense (and its dearth of even barely adequate OL... thanks Gettlemen) week in, week out to have ANY chance of success.

This isn't just preseaon worries, this poor line play is a continuation of last year. Bell, Silatou, and Williams are all struggling like they did last year.

Play actions, bootlegs etc may be able to occasionally mask it but when you have a overall bad Oline it will hurt you more then your capable of compensating for. This can buffered if team has a Elite passing Qb , group of receivers, or a Oline who is at least good in one dimension of blocking but as it stand now we have neither.

Strategy and innovation can only compensate for so much. When you play a good defense you need more then that, you need a Oline that can hold its own. We, at least as it appears right now, don't have that.

Most of it isn't super secret, it is about keeping your offensive players, especially your QB, healthy until the regular season.

You aren't going to run the read option and expose your QB in the preseason.  You aren't going to let DL through by design unabated to the QB to set up a screen in the preseason.  You aren't going to bootleg with a run pass option with your QB unprotected in the preseason.

We haven't run a lot of play action in the preseason.

These are all HUGE parts of this offense, and what make it actually work.  They are also the things that help slow up a defensive pressure and run defense.

When time and time again people handwringing over our offense and Cam Newton in the preseason, just to have them suddenly perform in the regular season, you have to stop and think, "Why is that?"

This same exact poo has happened the last 2 years.  Maybe you are right.  I'm just saying I am not worried about our offense.  We are asking a thoroughbred to try to run a race with only 3 legs.  I am not going to get upset if he isn't as fast.

I am going to wait and see what we are doing when we are running on all cylinders.  I think everyone would have less stress in their life is they did the same.

Making assumptions and predictions about any offense, good or bad, based on preseason games is fool's gold.

i agree with everything that you say except the fact that when we put this o-line up against a good d-line they couldn't physically overpower them to make plays happen.  I don't like that. we need an o-lineman or two before the season starts.

I don't disagree with that at all.

But usually with read option plays the tackle and guard pinch the DT. Their assignment is to take out the DT before going to next level. That will help. Also with boot legs and read options defenses will have to account for outside containment.

I agree with you though but d-lines will have more to think about when the playbook opens up IMO

Last year we said the same thing and it was a disaster. If we are not luckily enough to get a better G on theright side we might as well just run every play from the shotgun.
