star, kk, alexander...all risers in my mind. all three of those guys looked good.

 

i liked the secondary as well. they were very opportunistic and really took advantage of the pressure applied by the defensive front which is exactly what they should be doing.

 

beason looked good in the little bit he was out there. i was a bit nbervous for him, but he seemed to be able to jump right back into the action.

 

shula scares me. that offense last night was supposed to be a glimpse into what we should expect for the team. defense and special teams looked great in every aspect. the offense....not so much. i know that the OL presented a lot of problems, but shula seemed unable to adjust. i have this feeling that my concerns about him and in-game management will be justified. i have seen nothing to make me feel like my doubts about his abilities as a play-caller will be wrong, and i'm not happy. the offense was predictable. the offense didn't have their poo together. individual players need to step up. gettleman needs to get OL help and be aggressive with getting it once cuts start coming in, but on the whole shula needs to get his offense clicking. he needs to get them better prepared and better managed while the game is being played. i know that the players like him and respect him, but if he can't manage a better game than that those players in his corner will only be there out of obligation. the respect will dissipate.

But I have a question....

Why was Shula's offense last night suppose to be a glimpse of what is to come.

2011 and 2012 didn't show glimpses of what our offense would be? We have the same HC and scheme....so why suddenly in 2013 is he suppose to do it different?

I guess another question after watching last nights game was the defense playing vanilla and being in beast mode, and was the offense doing the same and looked like chit!

because it's going to be with a different mentality. that's one thing that they were harping on. shula was supposed to be leveling things out and streamlining things. he was supposed to be bringing in a more conventional offense.

 

and because this was his first experience managing a game with some sort of game plan set in place. this was a glimpse of what a shula run/managed offense would look like. 2011 and 2012 showed what we are capable of...good and bad, but that was with a different guy calling the plays and managing the show. i don't care if it's the same playbook with the same personnel. the guy calling the plays can make it run better or worse. his decisions can effect in a big way what we do on offense.

 

we thought we knew what to expect going into 2012 based on what we saw in 2011, but we saw for the first half of a season was quite different than what we saw. same OC. same key players. same QB. same playbook. things change from year to year, esp. with a new OC managing the offense and calling the plays.

 

for better or worse, this offense is going to be managed differently than it was with chud.

K Gano and P Nortman have been excellent so far. Remember, this was a major question mark coming into the season.

Addison is our 4th DE and yes, we have 4 good DE's. Horton might just make the practice squad. He's is what we don't have; an outside speed rusher.
