Safety Philosophy

We're going to see a lot of dink and dunking from opposing offenses this year.  DBs absolutely have to hit receivers hard.  Penalties or not, QBs are not going to respect this secondary.

QB's might not, but if you think you are about to get the ever loving poo knocked out of you, it changes how you prepare. That's part of what made Hines Ward so invaluable for years. He seemed to not care if the big hit was coming.

Yeah that's what I'm saying.  QBs won't respect the secondary so we must force WRs to.

Ward was just as likely to be the guy delivering the hit.

I'm a fan of Mitchell's nasty play. We need a Smittyesque chippy player on our D. 89 is good for a few personal fouls every few weeks, and I personally love that about him. So long as Mitchell can back it up with decent play, I'm fine with it. Just as long as it's not blatant Saint like behavior.

Could you rephrase so that I know precisely what you are asking? The first part of your question is somewhat... ambiguous?

I'll try again....

If Tom Brady knows player X is horrible in coverage and wants to pick on him. Is he going to stop bc the defender laid a hit on one of his WRs? I wouldn't think that would suddenly make Tom Brady change his mind....

No but if the receiver cant line up the next play and his backup alligator arms the catch..well..

Tom Brady's good play turns into a bad one when the receiver spends too much focus on the incoming hit.  But yes I see your point and I think I agree.  I'd rather have a solid clean player than a dirty big hitter.
