1st string O struggling against ravens 2nd string D

Good Coordinators learn to adapt and change schemes to hide weaknesses as much as possible.

Very few pro football teams are complete and without flaws.

We all know this.

Hopefully the Panthers brass knows this too and:

a.  Gettleman brings in a at least one blue collar guy, Wharton maybe, and some backup.  He saw the game too.

b.  no one is coming to rescue the Panthers and there re no star Oline men hiding any where and as Zod said, even Olinemen found now will take time to mesh.

At this point, it has to be tactical to strategic fix,  and so, Shula and his coaches need to find at least 2-3 bread and butter plays that this Oline can execute and do them.  2-3 is probably all that can be got from this bunch and strategically, next year, upgrades on

offense need to start...it may be the end of Williams and Stewart too, and maybe its time for that to happen.

I really don't care what those 2-3 plays are and I don't care if teams know they are coming, as long as they can't stop them.  GB Sweep anyone?  ...as a reminder.

In the meantime, pray that Gettleman runs the show and says, 'guys unacceptable' this is what needs to happen.

Now, as hard as I have been on Rivera, his defense has gotten better and better and better, personal helps and it all can't be fixed at once it seems.

If this does not happen, it is going to be a very long season.

Good lord you better hope not. That is Shula's biggest flaw.

To be fair with the amount of resources we've used to build up the defense I expect games like last night. My offensive expectations are very low for this team with that offensive line. If we win games this year it's going to have to be defensively. I think the offense would have reached the end zone on that Lafell drop tho.

Whoa...whoa...guys, its only preseason.  I'm sure the offensive line will get a couple of quality offensive linemen during cuts and the offensive line will be way better.  Cam will settle down and make more accurate throws.  Shula will open up the playbook and throw some passes down field.  The defensive backs will play within 12 yards of the receivers.  And the Receivers will wear different gloves that will allow them to drop passes.

No need to react at all to any of this as they wont be issues in two weeks.  Just ask Kurb, he is rational and smarter than the rest of you who overreact to preseason because the games don't count yet.

You must remember a handful of things about our offense.

1. We are playing extremely vanilla.

2. We have no starting FB with Tolbert and White Mike out.

3. That is not the O-line we are going to start the year with.

4. Cam is historically bad in the preseason.

5. The Ravens have a very good D-line

I appreciate your optimism but:

The 3rd preseason game should be your dress rehersal for the regular season. Is it too late to fire Shula?

Our offense has taken the term vanilla to a new level. Given Shula's track record I would like to have seen the spread it out more. His scheme is making our offense look terrible he better get creative.

Cam has me worried I cannot tell if his accuracy is due to the fact that our OL sucks and he is he is hurrrying his progression . I am also worried that Cam is going to get hurt given our OL.If you cant field a decent OL let Cam run for his life. His injuries seem to come on sacks not running.

I get it Gettlemen does not want to overpay anyone but our OL needs help how about getting some players

The Ravens have a good line but so do the seahawks we need to get an OL quick.

Our offense did not score 1 point. Can we count on 34 points from defense and ST....I think not

The 3rd preseason game should be your dress rehearsal for the regular season.

Have you watched the preseason the last 2 years? Even the "so important" 3rd game? In 2011, we lost to Cincy 24-13, cam was 6 of 19 for 75 yards...... In 2012, we squeaked by the Jets 17-12 with a 4th quarter DA TD.  Cam was 6 of 15 for 64 yards and an interception.

Cams accuracy has actually improved. when you compare the preseason games!

GETTLEMEN WILL BRING IN MORE O-LINE HELP.  there are currently approximately 90 players on each team that will be trimmed to 53 over the next couple weeks.  (37 players x 31 teams) 1,147 players will be hitting the FA market.  Of those 1,147 players, there will be a lot of lineman. I am willing to bet that a handful of these lineman will be of better quality than what is on our roster.  Just look at Detroit, who has 6 quality guards on their roster.  They will cut one.

Out of 8 drives last night, 6 of them crossed the 50.  Imagine if Amini hadn't gone out early, and we actually had a FB on the field. Or we were running anything other than simple runs and slot routes.  That was not our offensive dress rehearsal.  Carolina never ever shows what their offense can do in the preseason.

I don't know if it's denial or common sense, but something tells me that Shula is going to be calling things differently in the regular season.

At times last night, it really looked like he just wanted to see how the line reacted to different plays being called, it's like he was more interested in seeing the play executed than he was in moving the chains.  We didn't run any play action that I noticed, there wasn't much (if any) pre-snap movement, no read-option, no bootlegs, nothing that wasn't broken which involved Cam moving around.

There's NO way that we look like that in week one.

So maybe it was a dress rehearsal for the defense, but for the offense I think they were just running another practice.

I sure hope so, anyway. :)

If Gettleman finds a way to bring in quality o-line talent to contribute by game 2 this year, he will have shored up the last of my reservations for his ability to GM. He has mentioned his affinity for his "hogmollies". A single quality guard will go a LONG way to shoring up this team's chances for a playoff spot this year.
