Dolphins released CB Richard Marshall.

Another cog of GM Jeff Ireland's two-year masterplan down the drain. The move clears $4.55 million in salary. Overpaid to the tune of a three-year, $16 million contract in 2012, Marshall was limited to just four games by a back injury last season. Those are four games for which he was paid over $5 million. Marshall is hard-nosed and versatile, but was miscast as an outside starter. Ireland's admission of defeat is made more stunning by the fact that he has no clear alternative opposite Brent Grimes. Perhaps Ireland is ready to throw second-rounder Jamar Taylor into the fire, but career slot-man Dimitri Patterson is the best bet.

captain munnerlyn and d.j. moore are as good as we're gonna get for inside guys and i wouldn't trust marshall playing outside any more than we did in 2010

He's better than any DB on our roster to my understanding. I wonder if he'd be cheap.

Man, Marshall was really bad his last year or two here. But, signing him and seeing what he could bring to the table couldn't hurt.

I'm still hoping Norman wins his starting job back, shows out, and we move Captain back to the nickel primarily.

BRING HIM BACK!!!! Marshall is one of the ugliest man alive, but IMO a much better nickel corner than Captain.
