PUP a possibility for Stewart

This just shows how spoiled Panther fans are at the running back position. Haynesworth was a bad marriage. Stewart? Not even close. Give him a decent o-line and he'll have a 5.0+ ypc season. He's a threat in the passing game too (413 receiving yards in 2011). Sorry, but this fanbase can truly be ungrateful once monetary issues arise. I mean, some of these fans were blasting Beason and downplaying his accomplishments because of the contract.

I really could give a single fug about what they've done in the past, the fuging past isn't going to win us games. What have they done since they got their contracts? Stewart hasn't even ran for over 1,000 yards, since, what? 2008?

And your point being? D-Will has been our starter (receiving majority of the snaps) since he was drafted by us, and Stewart still amassed 700+ yards in 2010 and 2011. I don't know how you don't view that as impressive especially since Williams holds a percentage advantage over Stewart in the snap department (and Williams only out rushed Stewart by 100+ yards in 2011).

I couldn't give two craps about your "what have you done for me lately" attitude. This isn't a fantasy game.

This is a "what have you done for me lately league", if Stewart doesn't produce this year he will be gone. Hurney ain't the conductor anymore.

Said it on these very boards years ago that Stewart has a degenerative condition in his ankles and it was only going to get worse with time. That comes from somebody very close to Stewart. We're starting to see the issues emerge. He could have been a Top 5 guy in the league if he had ever been healthy enough to practice and play at 100%.

With that said, there is nothing out there to suggest that the PUP is an option for him right now. We're not even to the first week of the season. This decision doesn't have to come for some time. We can allow him to recover at his own pace.

The same could be said about Williams but considering our o-line is struggling in the run blocking department (in the preseason thus far), it appears all of our RBs might be in for a long year again. D-Will, J-Stew and Tolbert weren't exactly pulling away from anybody last year.

Fix the line and Double Trouble will consume defenses.

Well, if you had read other posts by me, I have suggested both might be shown the door at the end of the season. Restructuring only can hide our cap problems so much, Tolbert's contract isn't eating at our cap like the idiotic guaranteed money like J-Stew and D-will have in their contracts.

He's already on the pre-season PUP list so it's no that crazy to think he could go on the regular season list given he hasn't come close to practicing and as you say has such a condition and is recovering from two surgeries.

coming into training camp it was announced that there was a strong possibility stewart would start the season on the PUP list.

none of this news is a surprise...to be honest, the article is only rehashing already available information. obviously people haven't been following the situation.

Should have put #sarcasm at the end of the post.

You and Charlottepanther take the Internet too serious.

contracts matter....monetary issues are legit reasons for keeping or moving on.  you seem to want to downplay that.

Williams doesn't hold much of a percentage advantage over Stewart in the snap department....

Since the duo was formed in 2008 to date....2173 vs. 2080

And if that were true, then G-Man would have disposed of both them this off-season. Yet, he didn't, now did he?

Did you miss the whole Hurney fiasco and how DG had his hands tied?  He couldn't just off guys....Hurney made it so he will have to wait to get out of some of these deals.

    • I don't get the Hunter hate. Just imagine his ceiling if he stopped trying to be this 2way freak and focused on one side of the ball
    • 100%.  You have to play the cards that are dealt.  Not the cards you wish were dealt.
    • I'd say its definitely going to be addressed this off-season.  We went into the last draft with a roster of RBs including:  Chubba, Blackshear, and Miles Sanders. We picked Jonathan Brooks in the second and still signed Rashaad Penny afterwards.  Fast forward....One turned into a top 10 back, 1 is injured/out for most if not all the '25 season, 1 retired, 1 will either take a huge paycut or be cut, and the last is a restricted free agent. We brought in Mike Boone as well. Add him to the free agent list also.  We need a physical option.    Which qualifies:  Ashton Jeanty(Boise St): Overall ranked Top 10. Almost 2k yards after contact, 28 tds. Would take our first rounder. My money would be on an NFC East team selecting him. (97.2 PFF run grade) - 121 forced missed tackles.  Omarion Hampton(UNC): Ranked everywhere from 20 - 59 overall. Consensus #2 back after Jeanty. He'll be a second rounder. 1,222 Yards after contact w/ 15 tds.  (90.5 PFF run grade) - 72 forced missed Tackles Kaleb Johnson(Iowa): Ranked from 38 - 69 depending on which media outlet you prefer but generally #3. 2nd/3rd possibly. 1,060 Yards after contact w/ 21 tds.(86.7 PFF run grade)- 66 forced missed tackles Cam Skattebo: Ranked from the 50's - 104. Every mock I do he ends up BPA at some point. 969 Yards after contact w/ 17 tds(92 PFF Run Grade). Probably the best receiving back of the group. 81 forced missed tackles.  If the '24 and '25 draft classes were combined, IMO the rankings would be, in order: Jeanty, Hampton, Brooks, Johnson, Skattebo. I wouldn't take one high but I'd take one for Chubba and Brooks insurance.
