Gettis is very much in play for the WR3 spot per Joe Person

We have 4 WRs who have earned a spot. Smitty, Lafell, Gettis, and Edwards.

We have 3 guys who can return. Adams, Ginn Jr., and Barner.

If they have plans for Barner on Offense I wouldn't expect them to use him too much returning. Most teams don't want a player they may need taking a chance getting hurt returning.

To me it comes down to whether they trust Ginn Jr. as a WR. If they do, we will need a returner, and Adams seems to be the logical choice. If they don't trust Ginn as a WR, he may just do returns. In which case Adams may be gone.

IMO, unless Hixon balls out the next few weeks, he may be gone. He adds nothing to the team as it stands.

Ah hellz. I am confused no end about this. I would hate to lose Adams. Pilares and Hixon can go. Edwards has earned a chance. So has Gettis.

I think Adams needs to show he can hang onto the ball and take hits without fumbling.  If he does that, I believe they will try to make a spot for him, even if that means keeping 7 receivers and cutting back somewhere else (or finding an excuse to stash him on IR).  I think many here have forgotten just how good of a punt returner Adams is...but I have no doubt that the coaches still remember, they just want him to show that they can trust him.

While many use Ginn as a reason to let Adams go, we have to remember that he was only signed to a one year deal.  And if he has a season that makes him worth re-signing, he will command much more than Adams would make on his rookie contract.  Not to mention that Adam's salary would already be counted against our cap, while Ginn's new deal would need to be added to next season's cap figure.  So from a financial standpoint, I'm sure the team would prefer Adams to be the guy next year.

Aside from him outplaying LaFell in 2010, and I might be wrong here, but wasn't Gettis penciled as the #2 over LaFell going into both 2011 and 2012 before the injuries?  The guy hasn't had much of a chance to show anyone anything, but damn, he's looked impressive (to me at least) every time he's had an opportunity.

Now before I get lynched I'm not saying he's better than LaFell.  LaFell is a proven commodity over the last couple of seasons while Gettis has a small - albeit impressive - sample size.  But let's not act like Gettis is some scrub that just disappeared after a good rookie season.  The guy has just been unlucky and injured.

I'm rooting for both of them believe it or not.

Yes

And idk what Lafell has done?

More than gettis right? Which isn't saying much. It's not like this team receiver class is top tier

mmmm I mean its the type of catches he makes also. He's just more polished than Gettis. He does a lot of things a little bit better, just not as fast.

and top tier? Give me an example . . .like Holt and Bruce top tier? no its not top tier, ok.

Adams has not let the ball hit the floor yet this year. Although it has been in limited opportunities so far. He seems to have corrected his problems, to date.

If Adams can continue to hold on to the ball, and Ginn Jr. shows any WR ability, that is the only way they both make the team.

Even with that said, if Gettis can prove he belongs, he can make Ginn expendable as a deep threat. Or Ginn stays as a returner and Adams is gone. One, or both, is gone. We cannot keep both as returners. Especially with Barner having some return abilities.

As I have said before. Ginn Jr. is either a WR or a returner, not both. If he is a WR, that is Adams only chance of staying on the team. Because Adams has shown no WR ability up til now.

So IMO, as of now. Gettis and Edwards are 3 & 4, Ginn Jr. and Adams are 5 & 6. Hixon is gone, and Pilares makes the team as a ST ace. Only if Ginn is a WR, if Ginn is a returner, Adams is gone, and Pilares makes the team.

I confuse myself with all this.

Easy peasy. Right?

Gettis > Hixon/Edwards/Ginn for one simple reason: he's the only WR who has flashed true starting potential out of the bunch.

See this is the problem with Gettis. He has shown flashes. He has shown the ability. The main thing is, he has not shown it on any consistent level because he is not on the field.

The potential is there. For sure. And it appears he is ready to showcase his talents again this year. But until he can prove it with Cam. He is still a work in progress.

If he can, he can make Ginn Jr. a returner. Because Gettis can do what Ginn can do. Stretch the field. But we have to know for sure before we invest ourselves into the Gettis hype.

There are still things about Gettis we don't know. Can he block? Can he catch with his hands and not his body? Is he ready?

At this point in time. IMO, it is worth the chance to give him the opportunity to prove himself. He has shown he is can be better than anybody not named Smitty or Lafell. And I can live with that.

Ginn is a return man.

On this team, the one that has played Legatron and Murphy....he can play some WR.   Someone has to run the vertical routes....and Cam and Ginn actually have looked decent together in camp and last week
