Chip Kelly football

There is another thread that says the Panthers fan base is the 15 best in the league. Yeah right.....

Being a great fan isn't just about how much you root for your team. St. Louis Cardinal and Nebraska football fans are considered two of the best fan bases in the country because they are both knowledgeable of the game and willing to give credit to their opponents. I've seen both give standing ovations to teams or players that just beat them. It's called sportsmanship.

In 2002, Steve Spurrier was the new 'college coach golden boy' coming into the NFL. In the preseason he launched his 'fun & gun' offense and all of the media slobbered all over the results. The Redskins ended up with a 4-1 preseason record, blew out opposing defenses, and everyone was buying into the new 'offensive' hype. Well, after 2-seasons and a win/loss record of 12-20 football Spurrier went back to college ball.

The point of this: Don't buy into Preseason football. It is meaningless. And also don't buy into Chip Kelly's new offensive football. It worked in college, but no guarantees it will work in the NFL. The Panthers defense will be fine.....they will actually be very good.

Not exactly true.

There has been research done on whether or not preseason gives a bit of insight into how well a team will do, and there is a bit of correlation between the amount of wins in the regular season and those in the preseason, although they're not sure why that is. Anecdotes like the redskins' championship preseason don't hold nearly as much weight.

When you're a team that wins most of their games every year, having a shitty preseason doesn't matter. If you've been an average or bad team though, you'd want to see chemistry on the line, or your coach testing out a 2 minute drill offense. You can get a lot of work done in preseason. I'm sick of people blowing off the preseason when for years the regular season comes up and the team is still having the same problems it did in august.

Wasn't questioning a fans sportsmanship. My post was directed at threads here on the Huddle. I don't know where you got what you came up with at, maybe you're just trying to increase your post count...

Different teams have different philosophies of preseason and are at different places so blanket statements rarely hold much water.  Indy with Peyton rarely played him so they lost all their preseason contests but did well in the regular season. Other teams trying to get a rookie quarterback ready to start may play their guy a large part of the preseason.

Plus a few key injuries can make a team that was healthy in the preseason look bad in the regular season or vice versa.  Sure the preseason may presage a concern but it isn't as predictive as you seem to want it to be.

Our D looked bad, against the run AND the pass, because they were confused. They were completly unsure if it was run or pass. You can't stop a play when you're 100% unsure of the look qn offense is giving. On top of that, the tempo only inflamed the situation. Our guys were like " WTF just happened!?" "Oh, poo they're at the line again!" "What's going on!?"

And honestly I think many teams will have problems with that offense.

No one is jumping ship. No one is saying Chip Kelly is a better coach.

I just thought it was an interesting breakdown on a few plays from last night's game. It's a cool scheme and I thought some of you football fans would enjoy reading about it.

I also thought we played horrible last night.

Sorry if that means I'm an Eagles fan now.

Sorry ill raise my hand on that one. I most definitely think Chip Kelly is a better coach than Ron Rivera. Wanted him here this year. Call me what you want but I'm a realist.

It is downright comical how Panthers homers still try to resist that the same problems we've had in preseasons years passed have followed us throughout the regular season.

It's a good thing the season doesn't start today.
