Chip Kelly football

Like some others have stated, I'm not sure their offensive scheme is sustainable as defensive coordinators will eventually adapt.  The question is how much of a mad scientist is Chip Kelly to always stay one step ahead of the curve.

I kind of like what he's trying to implement in the NFL, regardless of how the Panthers looked in a preseason game last night.

Sorry facts make you sad :(

We ran super vanilla, they ran parts of Oregons complex offense. What exactly would you expect to happen Defensively

yep. after how they looked against the pats last week, it was important that they "win" the next game. they put more thought and planning into it than we did, but they were looking at different things and had different objectives than us.

The same complex offense that cause NFL scouts to second guess players because its too simple for the NFL?

The argument has always been that the spread option will not work in the NFL because everyone is fast. One thing no one said that I heard was that you also have top tier speed running the spread. They were able to stretch the field horizontally and create lanes which is dangerous with McCoy because of his vision and lateral movement.

We just over ran too many plays and with a little game planning that wouldn't be an issue with guys as smart as beason and kuechly and Rivera running the defense.

Maybe we will meet again the playoffs. Seems like a long shot but it was the second preseason game and they scouted our defense.

Lets wait till next week because we will be doing some game planning, starters will be in through the 3rd, and we won't be wearing the god foresaken best unis of all time. Those are cursed and I hope we never wear them again. Between last night and the giants game I'm over them.

We were bailed out by 2 bad turnovers.  It should've been way worse.

The last I looked, turnovers were a part of playing the game of football.  No "shoulda, woulda, coulda" about them.

I'm thinking that Kelly & the Eagles will go through the same thing Schiano & the Bucs did in Schiano's 1st year.  The team will fizzle from the frantic pace & teams figuring out how to stop them by November. If the injury bug doesn't bite them first.

I'm actually more worried about our offense than our defense after that game.  I'm hoping they were running scripted plays most of the half regardless of what the Eagles defense was doing.

Chip's offense was actually pretty fun to watch. I can only say that because this game really doesn't matter. Were it a regular season game, I'd be furious. I thought it was idiotic of him to expose Vick and Foles to so many running plays and needless hits in a preseason game, though.

I like how Newton didn't really take off and scramble (like that 3rd and 20 play where he easily had a very large chunk of yardage in front of him and stood at the LOS after rolling out and tried to force a play. And he could force a play because it's the preseason, and an int really means very little in the scheme of things. If it were the regular season, Cam would have ran that forward or threwn it away).

Once again, Chip Kelly's offense was fun to watch, but he sure is exposing a ton of complex plays in the preseason, when most teams run a vanilla scheme just to get through it relatively injury free while also evaluating individual talent and depth.

Was it embarrassing to see us get our asses whooped? Kinda. It was very frustrating. But remember, it's only preseason and W/L is not important and most of the plays are scripted for evaluation purposes.

In 2002, Steve Spurrier was the new 'college coach golden boy' coming into the NFL.  In the preseason he launched his 'fun & gun' offense and all of the media slobbered all over the results.  The Redskins ended up with a 4-1 preseason record, blew out opposing defenses, and everyone was buying into the new 'offensive' hype.  Well, after 2-seasons and a win/loss record of 12-20 football Spurrier went back to college ball.

The point of this:  Don't buy into Preseason football.  It is meaningless.  And also don't buy into Chip Kelly's new offensive football.  It worked in college, but no guarantees it will work in the NFL. The Panthers defense will be fine.....they will actually be very good.
