ITT we discuss the offensive line

At this point, if they decide to bring in Wharton, it won't be until week 3 because of some roster bonus loophole or something they will want to avoid.  Same goes for any vet FA.  If we pick up someone after roster cuts, it will have to be a pretty good player to justify the higher price tag. Not likely. Bringing in a new guy to start in week 1 probably isn't going to do anything but cause chemistry and concentration issues.  We are not going to see Wharton in practice or preseason.

I think our effort and money would be better spent trying to improve Williams/Bell or at least working on a game plan that helps to mitigate that problem.  This is not the worst o-line even with those guys.  Scheming and coaching will be the short term solution.

The biggest problem is the interior run game.  As a power running team, we can't sustain drives without it.  One incomplete pass usually translates into a punt because we can't pound the rock on second down.  We keep getting faced with 3rd and long and Smitty isn't going to be open every time.

We were horrendous on 3rd down on both sides of the ball and that's where we got beat, especially by Foles.

Reality check time. Our offensive line is probably one of the worst in the league at this time and there is really nothing that can be done about it now.We are one injury away from a total nightmare. With he schedule we have and the defenses we will face it will not be pretty. We will probably try a patch job after the final cuts, but the upgrade will be to little to late. I love this team and hate to see the team and this fan base suffer another upsetting season. They are not going to suddenly be decent in two weeks when the bullets start flying. I hear the reasoning that's it's only preseason and that it means nothing, but I believe the coaches are rearranging deck chairs on the titanic now with the group we have.

The line looked awful indeed (especially during the first half, which I watched mainly). However, they did seem to get some rhythm on run blocking, towards the end of the half. The pass blocking of course, was comical.

Nonetheless; we have to remember it's preseason, and leave it at that. Can't judge, till the season starts.

I looked at this line tonight, and it was insane to see so many Eagle defensive linemen were in our backfield, or just being able to get their arms around our backs as they came through the line. I know our line is bad, but that was a horror movie out there tonight. There's no way an NFL offensive line (no matter who's playing) should play that badly. So I have to think that something else might be wrong here. Then I think about the Peyton Mannings and the Tom Bradys of the world, and how they are very vocal at the line of scrimmage. Pointing out the line's assignments, and even checking out of plays. I have to wonder if Cam is doing the same here, or is he just going up to the line and hitting that go button no matter what the defense looks like.

We have a pro bowl center that should be able to adjust protection. No excuse for that poo. Tom and Peyton's teams actually invest in protecting their qb. We haven't protected cam or gave him weapons.

We have been competitive ever since Rivera got here. Only 1-3 games where we got blown out. The season imo rests on the OL and Cam.

This season is about defense. That's what they've been spending their time on since Rivera got here. It's time for it to show up

From a passing standpoint, our starters didn't look bad.  Cam had time to find receivers for sure.  It was just our run blocking that looked pop warner.  There was one play where the call was a draw, and as soon as D-Will touched the ball, a defensive lineman was touching him.  Disgraceful effort last night!  There is literally no way an NFL offensive line should look that bad.  Even if it's the worst line in the league.  That's why I believe perhaps more is going on with the technical side of things, the things that don't really show up on the tv.  I'm talking snap counts, adjusting of the play type stuff.

Have any of you noticed how many yards our running backs get once DA comes in versus how many yards they get when Cam is at the helm?  Let's start making a note of this.  I believe Cam still hasn't mastered the art of reading the defense pre-snap.  Those Eagle lineman just had too good of jumps off the line, and knew exactly when our runners had the ball. (Also, those play action fakes Cam does aren't really convincing at all.  Now I'm not a Cam hater, it's just that if we are going to pay him 100 million dollars plus with the next contract and so on, I want to make sure I can win a championship with him.)

The biggest thing that aggravates me is that a very smart guy like Gettleman saying things like "well its time for Cam to win" while knowing there's still a significant lack of talent on the offensive line and secondary.

Of course, I said he's a smart man, so I'm sure he knows it. And we still have time for final cuts and such.  Just looks shitty on my end when I read that knowing what the team looks like as a whole. Cam really does have room for improvement, but look at the rest of the rest of the team.

Tom Brady only has one probowl calibur player blocking for him. (His guard, which his name escapes me for the moment)  No matter how good Kalil adjust the calls, he doesn't determine the snap count.  Besides, his view of the field isn't as good as a QBs view.  From looking at the line's play last night in the running game, I can't help but think this is partly due to Cam not checking out of plays when they should, or not doing convincing snap counts.
