And what about the two-minute drill?

top dawg

Do you think that we should incorporate the two-minute drill in something other than the last two minutes? Other teams have used this to mix it up and confuse opposing defenses who have gotten into a rhythm. Can you see Jake running this effectively, or do you think that it would just be getting a little too "cute"?

If memory serves, they've thrown it into the 3rd a couple of times but it's rarely used unless the chips are down. I think davidson is a bit of a fan of the quick strike offense though so I wouldn't be suprised to see it this coming season since he came more into his own last season. But again, if the defense can't keep themselves off the field then I don't want to see the offense putting them out there too quickly.

I'd agree with seeing the team go to a "hurry-up" offense a few random times during the first three quarters but only after seeing if the defense can consistently force three-and-outs. If they can't build a reputation for that, then I'd rather the offense build up their time-of-possession stat.
yes....

Hurry up/no huddle-I think they have here and there, more under Jeff D IIRC. But Itsnotgonna brings up a good point.

I don't think we will go to a hurry up. Given we run more than we pass and the hurry up would make us more one dimensional, it would not be a great thing most of the time. But with that being said it might be advantageous some of the time. Against teams that rotate players alot or teams which substitute players like we do on third down it could be an advantage. If we used Williams or Stewart more in passing downs as receivers it could be an advantage.

As for Jake, his passing perecentage goes up from 59% to 62% in the last 2 minutes of the half but his YPA goes down slightly. Don't think the improvement is enough to go to it often. Up until 2008 I would have agreed to do it more but with our improved rushing attack and success running in the red zone, I don't think it gives us a distinct advantage anymore.

We are a run first grind it out team which means it is somewhat unlikely that Davidson (Fox) would do it. All the more reason it might be a good idea to pull it out of our back pocket especially if the run is working and defense is getting winded.

This would be especially effective if Goodson meets message board hype and becomes a legitimate threat. I think the offense is a player or scheme away from being one of the most dangerous 3 or 4 in the league.
