please do. Get started.

2009 We traded our 2010 1st round pick to pick Everette Brown.  WR's picked after Brown in 09 include: Brandon Tate, Mike Wallace

2010: That 1st rounder we traded for Brown WR's and TE's picked after the 17th pick which was ours- Demaryius Thomas, Dez Bryant, Arrelious Benn, Rob Gronkowski, Golden Tate

2011: WR's TE's Drafted after our 2nd round given up for edwards- Kyle Rudolf, Titus Young, Randall Cobb,

Your question of flawed....in this offense Mike Wallace for example would be a better #1 WR.  Smitty would be the better overall WR who in addition could capitalize on a WR young enough to legitimately take the top off a D.

Smith is paid as a #1, i'd be surprised if we even showed any interest in obtaining Mike Wallace.  I think our second round pick that we used on Short could have been a wr, but the FO obviously liked him more than available wr's.  Back in 10' we drafted 2 wr's in Gettis and LaFell and whatever the Armanti experiment they were trying.  2011 proved we had enough weapons but our defense was horrible, so that was addressed in the last two drafts.  Can only do so much at any given time, and hindsight is always 20/20 in regards to drafting.

okay but you're using trades from one year to show picks we could have had the next year, they were obviously thinking more about the current year rather than the following.

the Panthers have attempted numerous time addressing the wr position, just failed pretty much every time.

what you call an attempt, is a duct tape fix that tried to hide a hole but did not. plus there are 5 WRs on the current roster who will be FA after this season which puts you in the same boat as going all in at WR next year.(kinda like DT)

using 2nd and 3rd round draft picks on wr's aren't necessarily duct tape fixes, maybe guys like dj hacket or keyshawn or older Moose may be, but not every team uses their first round picks on wr's.

And Thinking about the current year they were still hard pressing to find WR help see 2010 drafting 3 WRs which included trading away the next years 2nd to pick up Edwards who No One had projected until after the 4th!  That 2nd could have been used the next year picking up someone like Rudolph.

DE was an issue but no bigger than WR where back to 2010 they drafted 3 wr and only Hardy at DL late Despite the same DL from the year before MINUS Peppers.  Again could have had a stud 1st round WR instead of trading up And reaching for a DL when it was obvious WR help was just as big if not bigger issue.

Think how nasty we could be with DT lined up with smith and Rudolph paired with Olsen.

not saying the Panthers were right, but they obviously viewed Smith as a #1, who has proven he can carry the load with a competent running game.  getting Moose back in 08' was certainly addressing the situation, once we lost Jake in 09 the season was basically over.  Moose is gone in 10 so we draft THREE wr's.  Were they anyone's first choice, no?  I mean going back and saying we should have drafted so-and-so instead of whoever doesnt make anyone sound smarter.  Would we be in any better shape had we drafted Golden Tate like everyone wanted instead of Clausen?  I doubt that would have satisfied anyone here at this point.  I, along with everyone else was disappointed we didnt chase a FA this year at the position, but unfortunately we dont have cap space for anyone significant.

True but they did show that WR was just as big an issue.  The drafting so-and-so instead would be a pretty moot argument had we not drafted the guys the way we did.  Again we did trade away a 2nd round pick to draft a kid who not one person out there including app states coach or even Edwards thought/had going until 4th at the earliest.  So yes Easy to say pick so-and-so considering we could have got him with our later pick And still had that 2nd the following year to pick up a Rudolph.  2010 we still had peppers and we traded away a First round pick to Reach in the 2nd to snag Brown who again everyone had us reaching here.  That First round who even if we didnt pick a WR could had a First round caliber DL to Replace peppers instead of a late 2nd-3rd DL to replace a pro-bowl DL.

Bottom Line- Hurney left us with a Mess.

we drafted Brown in 09' when it was inevitable Peppers wasn't coming back who was a first round prospect at the time, but as an OLB.  Pep was a Bear in 10', the mess was created in 10/11'

Again back to Hurney and Reaching in the draft.  We go out and get a 3-4 OLB who was projected late 1st early 2nd before his stock started to fall, to replace a pro bowl DE, when we could have had a 1st round calibre DE in the 2010 draft to replace Pep for the 2010-2011 season once Pep left.

i'll give it to you, you're hindsight is 20/20!

Hurney has been gone, dead and obvious issue.
