Early 53 Man Roster

Flying Lion

Recommended Posts

Quarterbacks: 3

1. Jake Delhomme

2. McGown

3. Matt Moore

Analysis: Our QB situation is very dicey after Delhomme.

Runningbacks+Fullbacks: 5

4. Deangelo Williams

5. Jonathan Stewart

6. Goodson

7. Brad Hoover

8. Fiametta

Analysis: The only question is if Fiametta proves worthy of the spot. With us using the pick that we did on him I doubt he would make it to the PS so I have him making the roster.

Tight Ends: 3

9. Jeff King

10. Gary Barnidge

11. Dante Rosario "Dawson"

Analysis: We have a solid group. No superstars, but each one player has his strengths and plenty of upside.

Wide Receivers: 5

12. Steve Smith

13. Mushin Muhammed

14. Dwyane Jarrett

15. Ryne Robinson

16. Kenneth Moore

Analysis: This is pretty much everyone's top 5. Could go 6 deep with J. Carter or Beavers (PS?)

Offensive Line: 9

17. Keydrick Vincent

18. Ryan Kalil

19. Travelle Wharton

20. Duke Robinson

21. Geoff Schwartz

22. Mackenzy Bernadeau

23. Jonathan Palmer

24. Jeff Otah

25. Jordan Gross

Analysis: Pretty standard 9 man OL front. There will be a fight for Palmer's backup LT-LG spot

Defensive Line: 7

26. Julius Peppers

27. Everette Brown

28. Kemo

29. Damione Lewis

30. Nick Hayden

31. Corey Irvin

32. Taylor Brayton

33. Charles Johnson

Analysis: 5 DE's (Brayton and Johnson can play combo DT/DE on passing downs) and 3 DT. A strength of our team. Hilee will be here, but at whose expense?

Linebackers: 6

34. Jon Beason

35. Thomas Davis

36. James Anderson

37. Nail Diggs

38. Dan Conner

39. Landon Johnson

Analysis: 4 of the top 6 LB's seem to be set. Anderson and Johnson could step up their game. One of our strongest units to date.

Defensive Backs: 9

41. Chris Gamble

42. Richard Marshall

43. Chris Harris

44. Sherrod Martin

45. Charles Godfrey

46. Quinton Teal

47. CJ Wilson

48. Captain Munnerlyn

49. Dante Wesley

Analysis: We ahve a few guys that can play FS/Nickel/Dime packages. Also, this gives us depth on special teams that we can use.

Special Teams: 4

50. John Kasay

51. Jason Baker

52. Rhys Llyod

53. Justin Geisinger (JJ is waiting in the wings)

Analysis: Standard set. With the exception of having a kickoff specialist.

Practice Squad

Your guess is as good as mine.

It seems we have plenty of RB's so whether or not they can make it past waivers I think we should see a few along with 2 tackles and DB/WR's.

Man, we have a really fuging talented team.....from top to bottom there arent many teams with the amount of talent that we have.

I looked at it thinking the same thing.

I think Cadogan makes it over Palmer, due to the fact he is a natural left tackle.

Hayden will have to hold off Harvey, Favorite, and possibly a veteran yet to come.

Geisinger won't be here, I think we bring back Kyle to long snap before camp.

Moore, has got a LOT of competition as the last receiver, will be an interesting battle in camp.

Also I wouldn't count Hilee Taylor out of the mix. He is super fast, and an excellent pass rusher. I think Meeks will give him every shot to make the roster.

No way we keep 6 corners and only 3 safeties. Salley or Scirrotto will make the team. Wesley, Munnerlyn, and CJ Wilson will battle it out to stay.

I had JJ Jansen replaced with Justin Geisinger in my pred. If JJ plays Don't we owe Green bay a draft pick?

Also, I might agree with Hilee making the team but I haven't heard of Fields before.

Agree for the most part but I think there will be a couple of FA that make the squad to improve depth. I think Mike Goodson and J Carter make K.Moore and R. Robinson irrelevant which opens an extra roster spot that is TBD.

I didn't know that Geisinger was a LS, and why would we have made the trade for Jansen if we didn't plan on him making the team? Hilee Taylor is a perfect fit in this new defense and Joe Fields is a lot better than Teal IMO.

I believe the trade is contingent upon play time. Basically we owe them a pick

as per bleacherreport.com link

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/155490-panthers-trade-for-green-bay-packers-long-snapper-jj-jansen

"

The Jason Kyle era in Carolina may be coming to a close soon, as the Panthers traded an unconditional seventh-round draft pick in 2011 to the Packers on Monday in order to acquire the services of Packers' long snapper J.J. Jansen.

Jansen, a free agent rookie with the Packers in '08, spent the season on injured reserve after suffering a knee injury in the preseason.

At 6-foot-2, 256 pounds, Jansen was a long snapper for Notre Dame, and was the long snapper for his final three seasons with the Irish.

"He was going to be their long snapper as a rookie last year and he got hurt," said Panthers general manager Marty Hurney. "He tore his ACL in training and they signed another player who did well in his place."

The Panthers' current long snapper, Jason Kyle, who spent the last eight seasons in Carolina and has never botched a snap in a regular season contest, is an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

While there is still the possibility that the Panthers could re-sign Kyle, the issue once again, is the fact that the Panthers really have no space under the salary cap because of the $17 million that the team has tied up in Julius Peppers."

I was wrong. Still competition is always good and you never know if he gets hurt again. There si no way we go without a backup plan.

only having 3 DTs is a terrible terrible idea, and hilee taylor could easily be gone, i know meeks scheme likes quick lineman but we always keep at least 4 DTs out of a group of 9 lineman

    • I mean saying he worked with Wilson is a stretch
    • Canales has worked with Wilson, Smith & Mayfield. He didn't move on from them did he? Reich & Canales have both benched Young. Young consumed a bulk of the Panthers' draft capital & free agency the past 2 seasons all for offense. What will it take for people to realize Young isn't a professional athlete, nevermind a leader of professional athletes?
    • Brees was the EXCEPTION. My God why can’t people see this. We didn’t outsmart anybody by drafting Bryce other than ourselves. In his prime Brees was NEVER A PROJECT. He was never just an ok QB before getting plugged in with Payton.  In his second season in SD he threw for 3,200 yards and 17 TDs. His last 2 years in SD he threw 51 TDs while being sacked 55 times. He was already a stud before going to the Saints.  he threw for at least 4,000 f-in yards EVERY SEASON from 2006 to 2018.  He threw for over 5,000 yards in 5 of those. I really thought all of the Bryce people had given up by now. He’s not Drew Brees. He’s not throwing for 80,000 yards and 571 TDs over a 19 year career, while leading one of the most prolific offenses of all time. He would be lucky to have met the guy who once carried DB’s jock.  Bryce is morale poison who throws hospital balls, 2 yard dump offs and pick 6s because he lacks the critical physical attributes to succeed in the NFL as well as the burning desire to BE A CHAMPION. He spent the offseason watching tv and playing video games. Every year wasted on him is a year wasted in developing other actual legitimate talent that exists on offense. Expect XL, the line, and pretty much the entire offense to regress if he starts next season. Canales gets it. It’s about making the Panthers win. Not Bryce.  Imagine being his teammate and hearing that after his pathetic ass rookie season, he went home to watch tv and play video games in the offseason. Imagine what Thielen really thought when he first heard. He should have hired a personal trainer and throwing coach the last day of the season. He needed to immerse himself deeper in to football, he chose to withdraw. he is not and will never be a champion. Dan is putting together some good offensive talent that will be completely wasted with Bryce under center. He’s injected high level talent and veteran leadership on the offensive line. There are skill players with big play ability, who are running free. I’m trying to pump the brakes but this offense is shaping up to be pretty fun to watch, and it only took one offseason’s worth of moves. I don’t think we are as far as people say we are.  So his big contract hit….   Want to know why divorce is so expensive… because it’s worth it.
