If you haven't heard of Johannsson, you will soon

Johannsson just received clearance from FIFA to join the USMNT. Johannsson was born in Alabama but moved back to his parents native country of Iceland when he was three.

Johannsson currently plays for Altidore's former team (AZ) where he has five goals in seven caps.

Before joining AZ, Johannsson played for AGF where he had 23 goals in 65 games averaging out to about a goal every three games.

Johannsson may see his first action in a USMNT kit tomorrow against B&H.

It also helps that Johannsson looks like a young Kevin Bacon.

Here's to a successful career for Aron and the continuing growth of the talent pool for the United States.

Altidore, Donavan, Johannsson, Johnson, Wondolowski, Gomez, and Boyd will form a pretty solid forward group for the USMNT.

He had a good showing today, neither of his three shots resulted in a goal, but like AppState said he is super calm in the opposing third and takes on defenders at his own will. His dribbling skills were quite impressive because I didn't really see him play on the ball much at in those few videos.

Brooks also had a decent game. Dzeko obviously got the better of him, but that's to be expected. Brooks did however make a great one-on-one tackle against Dzeko and he also made a phenomenal read on a pass when he was the only defender back and it was one-on-three.

According to Brooks it was an easy decision to play for the U.S. because the players and coaches were extremely nice to him and made him feel welcomed.

It sounds like he will be cap tied to the U.S. soon.

    • If we are going to spend the money anyway, maybe the signing is not as bad as it seems.  Mays outperformed Corbett (before his injury and if you go back to last year, Corbett has been below average) and then Christensen took the job and Mays quickly took it from him and never looked back.  He could use improvement reaching to the next level (LBs) but picking up stunts and blitzes---he was surprisingly good.  Run blocking needs some work, but he is 25.  Corbett, in my view, should be G/C depth and if Mays steps back, he is there.  Mays should start because this team is building for the future and 30 year old players are not building blocks.  We shall see.  That is how I think about it, but there are many factors we do not know. Having said that, I like what Zavala is doing, and I do not want to bring in someone who would take opportunities away from him.  Zavala was really good at RG down the stretch, and in limited duty, was awesome. In fact, we have a guard from the PS who played briefly and did well, but he only played a few plays.  He is 25 and I recall that fans of his former team were upset when we signed him.   Maybe as the backup center only (Corbett).  You need 2 centers to run practices efficiently.  I cannot say enough about the OL coaches on this staff.  What they have done is overshadowed by the Lewis / Hunt signing.  Mays, Ekwonu, Zavala--impressive growth.
