Anybody a little concerned with Beason?

That microfracture thing is a tought deal to overcome. Im hoping that Beast will get back on the field. Im glad we added Blackburn and i like AJ Klein.

Plus, the average NFL career is 3 years for a reason.....every stud we have isn't going to always be able to pull off the comeback if hurt. I hope Beason would as I would anyone......but that is the NFL.

I'm definitely concerned about Beason, and I have been for a year or so now. I feel like he isn't going to be anywhere near ready come the first season of the game, and he's not going to be anywhere close to being able to start that game. To be in football shape, you really need to be out there, hitting people and getting hit, not sitting on the sideline on a bicycle. Sure, he's physically jacked up, but he hasn't been in the fire in almost a year. I don't think he'll stay healthy if he tries to start week 1 without playing a single preseason game.

I had microfracture surgery in 2004, and I haven't played a down in the NFL since.

Seriously, it was at least 12 months, probably closer to 18 before I didn't think about pain in my knee.  Of course I am not quite the athlete Beason is, and my rehab regimen, work ethic and therapists might not have been exactly like Beason's.... so yeah, there's not much comparison.

I am a little worried because that surgery is a crap shoot, but if anyone can come back from it he can.  Just don't come back too early!

I wasn't worried about Beason until I read about microfracture surgery. How can you not?

He has had his share of bad luck in the last few years.  It would be great for him to catch a break. I sure hope he can come all the way back.  He could really make a difference if he can come back 100 %.  Otherwise he will still be one of my favorite players.

After reading this by Joe Person, the rose-colored glasses have been taken off my eyes regarding Beason. There is really no real fix for people who are going to put pressure on their knees a whole lot (like athletes).  The article just makes me feel bad for Beason. Now I know why we went and got Blackburn, and drafted Klein (which was basically a no-brainer due to value).

I don't know about Beason but the Panthers were in base 4-3 on less than 1/2 of all defensive snaps last year. Obviously they want him on the field for those plays but the reality is that the Panthers play with only 2 LBs on the field most of the time (source: Football Outsiders). Losing him is losing a situational player not an every down guy.
