Soccer '13-'14 season

According to Barca, Tello is going nowhere this month. I don't really know why, but they don't even want to part ways with him via a loan.

Salah would be a good player for us, but I think Basel's price tag is just too high.  Sturridge was apparently a full participant in training starting yesterday and could be a surprise inclusion in the squad this weekend.

Thanks for the update. I mean I think we were asking too low for Salah, this guy is incredible at getting down the sideline. He can score from many different areas and we won't be playing Allen as much.  Sterling has been playing exceptionally well but we have lost alot of attack from the wings due to Glen Johnson's form and Enrique not being fit. I was hoping that Aly Cissokho would be able to fill that role but you and I know that's not going to happen any time soon.  I just think if we could spread some of these defenses out some more we would get better chances up front.  Sturridge being back will help that alot but imagine having a quality guy to overlap sturridge and feed our big 3 the ball.

basically, how much is a CL spot worth?

I agree on Salah. I think he instantly makes us better as a team. His only real flaw is creating for others and his first touch. Two things that can be improved with more talent around him.

You're right. Lately, our attack has just had a tendency to bottleneck into the middle of the pitch and we get ourselves jammed up. Sturridge back will open things up a little more for our midfielders as well.

I think qualifying for UCL has a £30m payout this year. Can't confirm that though,

With Suarez and a summer's worth of Champions League money we could definitely make a mark in the tourney and, I think, beat anyone in Europe.

UCL is a rough go of it. I think we are good enough, but I think it will take a few years of consistent Champions League play to really have a chance at making a run.

And you are not going to beat Chelsea, City, Arsenal without getting outside.

I liked his first touch but I guess they aren't going to show all of his bad touches on youtube.

30 mil is only the beginning.  Players are going to want to be here and FSG will open up some more, they've been bargain shopping with the hopes of breaking into the top 4 in order to spend. For example: Allen, Aspas, Alberto... 7m here 9m there, whatever they paid Allen was 100% too much...

I am pretty much basing my opinion of his first touch off what I saw in the group stage v. Chelsea.  I know he nicked the goal that ultimately won it for them, but I thought he squandered a lot of opportunities early.  All stuff that can be solved on the training ground though.

And yes. I think FSG was taking the "wait and see" approach with BR.  We are always going to be a squad that looks for bargains if we can get them, but I think we'll splash £20m+ on some players before long.

We need to keep Liverpool's debt in mind though.  It's something like £80m right now.  FSG did loan £45m to the club, but debt is debt when it comes to ownership just moving it around.  Not to mention Anfield renovations coming up soon.  I think we could be 4-5 years away from seeing any real spending on big name players.

It's unfortunate that you're right, however, I mean we are not going to get another Luis Suarez for a long time and if he leaves because we aren't going to put the money into it now then we may as well just take our seats in 6th place and like it this time.

I'm not too keen on the front office side of things yet, It just seems that teams can go in a huge amount of debt to attract bandwagon fans and then try to sell them merchandise to make up for it.  I don't know, I feel like, if you get a team built that wins it will solve alot of those problems in time.

Absolutely. While perhaps not the biggest club in the world, Liverpool is a global brand. We have huge followings in many countries. Getting back into European competition and all the money that comes with TV rights and more ticket sales will do wonders for the club financially. We are not in dire circumstances yet, but we have a ways to go to climb back out.

As a football fan, I recommend reading this: http://www.deloitte.com/assets/Dcom-UnitedKingdom/Local%20Assets/Documents/Industries/Sports%20Business%20Group/uk-sbg-football-money-league-2013.pdf

It breaks down the world's most valuable clubs and why they have either dropped or risen. LFC are at #9.
