"Gettis back in the game" by Stickland @ panthers.com

Except that Delhommedelivered on game day. Gettis has yet to do anything more than have a couple decent games as a rookie.

I hope that he succeeds as I love his size and speed. But to label him a game day player or compare him to Delhomme is laughable.

He had more than a couple decent games. He legitimately earned the #2 WR job over Lafell.

I still chuckle at how this place reacts to David Gettis.

Stuff like, "How much longer?" comments just trip me up.  I mean compared to Armanti...those kind of comments are pathetic.  Armanti Edwards has had FOREVER to make an impact...and he has 5 catches.  Gettis can, and WILL run circles around Edwards.  5 catches...IN THREE YEARS.  Nice guy...but he's crap.

See, now that comment I made will get responses blaming the coaches...but when Gettis defenders blamed coaches, they were laughed at.

Except that Delhommey's delivered on game day. Gettis has yet to do anything more than have a couple decent games as a rookie.

- I think you might have got the wrong idea from my post. I wasn't comparing their careers; I was comparing the way they practice to the way they play. I will say this though, Delhomme didn't exactly start his career out with a bang (being cut by the Saints), if it wasn't for Peete's struggles against the Jaguars; we may have never seen Jake start a game for the Panthers. The point is, you can't judge a player off of a short span of time (especially 17 games).

- A couple of good games as a rookie is an understatement, he was the best wide receiver on the team (quarterbacked by Clausen, Pike, St. Pierre) that year while Smith pretty much gave up on the team.

- Also don't leave out his ACL injury in your post because it paints a very murky picture.

- Gettis has only played 17 games (essentially one full season) in his three year career and has decent numbers in those games (508 yards, 3 touchdowns).

- His numbers are pretty much on par for the typical WR3 position. Now he just needs to show the coaches he can contribute week in and week out.

Go back and look at his game stats his rookie year.he had 500 yds receiving, but nearly 20% of that total was one play.

He only had 2 games with yardage over 42 yds. He had a 125 yard game and a 92 yard game....88 of those 92 came on one blown coverage play.

Gettis flashed potential that season, but was wildly inconsistent with his hands.

He definitely has potential with the size and speed combo. But, he has a long way to go to he called a game day player.

Yet Edwards is the one running circles around Gettis in training camp.

I hope both succeed...and I actually think both make the team and contribute.

You have to give the guys time...

It's funny that our wide receivers are starting to look decent when they are coached up and each given reps.

All the guys have said that the previous wide receiver's coach never split the reps in practice.

Everyone wants results now, but the key thing to have right now is patience and let coach Proehl do his job.

Back to the point, I was trying to make earlier.

Some guys are practice players, some guys are game players, and some guys are both. Obviously you want the player that shows up for practices and games but if you can't have that, then you would at least prefer the player that shows up for games.

I agree.

Which is why the competition between Edwards and Gettis in the preseason is interesting. Both are going to get a lot if chances. I hope to see both step up and deliver.

Just as a counter point... Ginn has been looking good in practice and looked like crap in the game as WR...

Not argue'n... cuz I agree with you. Just making a point.

That's cause, Cam was probably throwing to him, when he did [look good in practice].

As it's been said: Not sure if Clausen or the other QB's can consistently throw to him down field.

Gettis> Edward, Adams, Pilares ... though Edwars has shown improvement, FINALLY, I think Gettis may potentially be the better option. More so, if we can wait this long on Edwards to come around without any injury surely Gettis deserves the same opportunity.  Realistically, Ginn should replace Pilares at KR and Pilares should be on the PS. But you don't have to take my word for it.
