The reciever battle

Recommended Posts

Ginn did not look playable as a receiver tonight.

Joe Adams did not look good at receiver.

AE and Gettis helped their cause. Hixon is probably still the 3rd guy if he heals up. He's a proven veteran.

One thing to consider is AE is a weapon. If he can play WR at an acceptable level while being 3rd string QB and a trick play passer. I think that keeps him on the team over an equally skilled receiver.

The other thing about AE is he's not very fast....He's basically a 5'10" possession receiver. That eliminates him from ever being a bankable starter.

AE ran a 4.43 40 at the combine he isn't a burner but he isn't a passion guy either his low 40 was 4.39 hardly a position guy, you guys have the misunderstanding that he is slow because he gets to top speed quickly.

For reference Joe Adams is a 4.54 guy.

If you want to disagree with me that is fine. But why are you trying to belittle me? Grow up. AE was our third QB in every single game last year.

No. No, he wasn't. Pickles was the emergency 3rd QB. Per NFL rules you can have one QB that's "inactive" in regards to your "active" game day roster, who can come in as an emergency injury replacement.

Pickles was our 3rd QB all season. AE would have been fourth, if such a thing even existed.

That rule change a couple years ago. How do you figure Jimmy was going to enter a game when he was wearing a TShirt and gym shorts?

Look at the two best plays of his career, he was caught on the long pass and he was caught on the long punt return. It doesn't really matter what he ran at the combine, he doesn't run fast enough on the field.

I'm not just pulling poo out of my ass. Pickles was designated as the emergency non-active third qb in every game. In the event he's needed the necessary time to enter uniform is granted.

I'm an admitted late-comer to Panther fandom, a bandwaggoner from the advent of Cam Newton.  I've admitted it before.

So, with that in mind, I have no "skin" in the Armanti game.

IMO, seeing what I've seen SO FAR, I'd keep Armanti over Joe Adams and Pilares.

I live in Canada so I haven't seen any live Panthers football this year. I never wanted to get too excited about the Armanti hype until I saw it in a game, like most of you. The first thing I noticed on Friday was Armanti's arms (no homo). But he's definitely added some muscle this off season which was awesome to see. I asked the Huddle's favourite person for confirmation

@josephperson: Yes. Not getting knocked off routes. RT @JShawww @josephperson appeared Armanti added a little muscle this off season. look like he has?

I'm really starting to believe the Armanti hype. Would still like to see Ginn get some snaps with Cam next game. I don't think we can look to much into Ginn's performance until we see him with Cam more. Hixon needs to get healthy, before training camp I would have said he was a lock at number 3 but if he can't stay healthy which has always been a problem, I'm not so sure he's worth keeping.

Gettis had a nice game Friday, a lot is being made about him 'body catching', it was too bad he wasn't able to pull the one pass in from Jimmy in the fourth with his hands. I do think it was a poor throw after re watching the game this morning. Gettis needs to keep showing flashes this pre season in order to stay IMO.

As far as Adams and Pilares go, I think there's more upside with Adams as a returner and receiver. And yes i know Pilares has a KO return TD (Detroit) but i still think Adams. Also, Ginn's on a one year contract. I think they keep Adams for insurance if Ginn leaves and then hope while Ginn's here he can teach Joe a thing or two about returning in the NFL.

Anyway for what it's worth here is my 2013 WR roster.

Smitty

Lafell

AE

Ginn

Hixon

Adams

Gettis (if we keep 7 or if Hixon can't get healthy)

Also, I'm super excited about Lafell this year. Haven't been too confident on him in the past but I'm liking what I see and hear so far. He's a huge key to this offense.

I have watched that pass against the Redskins several times and there is not one WR on this team that would have scored a TD. .Not Gettis, Tedd Ginn or Steve Smith. The defender had a good angle on Armanti.

The fact that  people are still holding that over his head is ridiculous. He made a huge play and perhaps it's no coincidence that everyone is saying that he looks so much better than the year before.

4.4-4.39 is not slow at all. Deangelo Williams is a 4.4 guy and no one called him slow. Tedd Ginn has thus far proven to be a crap WR and he's one of the fastest players in the NFL.
