The reciever battle

Recommended Posts

Unfortunately, unless Pilares literally takes over one of those preseason games, he's likely gone. It almost seems like he's actually gotten slower somehow. I've been rooting for the guy all along. Ohwell, what can ya do.

I think we keep Gettis around one more year and Adams will stay on potential alone, he needs more time.

We carried 7 WR's last year, up until Pilares went to IR that is.

I think it will basically end up as follows. Not necessarily in that exact order though.

Smith
Lafell
Edwards
Hixon
Ginn
Gettis
Adams

This seems the most realistic to me. Except I'm still skeptical about Edwards making real improvement, much less enough to beat out Hixon. Time shall tell I reckon.

Ginn did not look playable as a receiver tonight.

Joe Adams did not look good at receiver.

AE and Gettis helped their cause. Hixon is probably still the 3rd guy if he heals up. He's a proven veteran.

One thing to consider is AE is a weapon. If he can play WR at an acceptable level while being 3rd string QB and a trick play passer. I think that keeps him on the team over an equally skilled receiver.

The other thing about AE is he's not very fast....He's basically a 5'10" possession receiver. That eliminates him from ever being a bankable starter.

I'm skeptical but hopeful, and that list is very loose. Being that Hixon has yet to play in preseason.

You just eliminated yourself from being a reliable poster by suggesting we keep AE as a third QB and trick play passer and he can play QB. With Cam in the game no one gives a damn about trick plays. Armanti should be the third reciever as he consistently beat his man tonight from everything I saw.

On the Lafell touchdown, it was drawn up so that Edwards would interfere with the defender covering Lafell, if it were a slant it'd be a rub route but because it was a drag I'm not sure. The fact that Lafell only was mentioning Smith and Edwards as guys stepping out means I will take his and riveras words over yours.

He is quick enough in the slot, he's just got to get to the point where he's thinking about how he's going to run a route and not what route he's running which I believe is finally happening for him. If he gets a lane on a slant he could be gone in close quarters just because his burst.

He and Gettis did well tonight but Gettis also ran the same route each time. He's gonna have to show more diversity. Ginn did nothing for me which may have been Derek's fault, and hixon it seems will never be healthy. Keep AE as the third hixon number 4 to try and cut down his exposure to injury, Gettis 5, ginn 6.

If you want to disagree with me that is fine. But why are you trying to belittle me? Grow up. AE was our third QB in every single game last year. Gettleman never had three QBs on the roster when he worked in New York. The theory is if your first two QBs have gone down there isn't much hope anyways. Armanti can hand the ball off and run a small package, like he did last year and the year before. Under Chud we ran trick plays and we ran them well. Cam is a good QB but there are always times when you can fool the defense. We ran a double pass with Nane two years ago. Last year AE threw a nice pass to Steve that was broken up by incidental contact.

Don't forget Adams and Pilares were drafted while RR was here, and Gettis was not. Not sure how that will influence things with Gettleman making the final call, but it seems like Gettis is always in the dog house for some reason.

Smith Lafell Edwards Hixon Ginn are the 5 likely locks. Pilares seems like a lock to go. So, as others have said, it really depends on if we go 6 or 7, with either Gettis or Adams being the odd man out if we go 6. Bersin is a year away.

I think Hixon is far from a lock.

Smith and LaFell are locks. Ginn likely is just bc of ST work pending Adams and Barner don't explode in ST the remainder of the preseason.

I think Hixon is in the Edwards, Gettis, etc lump with Edwards sitting at the top of the pile.

I think it was even DG who talked about injuries and that some players basically have it on their DNA. Hixon seems to be that type player. If he doesn't get onto the field and earn that spot I don't see them giving it.

Pilares I think has the smallest shot of the main guys left over from prior years

Living in AZ, I haven't seen much this year. I want to ask those of you that have about AE. Does he really look legit or just the skinniest kid at fat camp? I hate that Sunday Ticket doesn't give you any preseason games.

He looked good....I want to see him make those catches with first string in though before I am sold on his improvement

I disagree about AE and the starting roll.
